The 1988–89 Iowa State Cyclones men's basketball team represented Iowa State University during the 1988–89 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Johnny Orr (basketball, Born 1927)
John Michael Orr (June 10, 1927 – December 30, 2013) was an American basketball player and coach, best known as the head coach of men's basketball at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, University of Michigan, and at Iowa State University. In the 1975–76 season, Orr was named National Coach of the Year. Early life and playing career Orr was born in Taylorville, Illinois or Yale, Kansas and grew up in Taylorville during the Great Depression. Orr attended Taylorville High School under coach Dolph Stanley and in his senior year (1944) led the ''Tornadoes'' to a state championship and a 45–0 record, the first team to ever finish a season undefeated in the Illinois High School Association's history. In 2007, Orr was voted one of the "100 Legends of the IHSA Boys Basketball Tournament," recognizing his superior performance in his appearance in the tournament. The 1988–89 Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team represented the University of Iowa as members of the Big Ten Conference during the 1988–89 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by third-year head coach Tom Davis and played their home games at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. They finished the season 23–10 overall and 10–8 in Big Ten play to finish in fourth place. Allen Fieldhouse
Allen Fieldhouse is an indoor arena on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence, Kansas. It is home of the Kansas Jayhawks men's and women's basketball teams. The arena is named after Phog Allen, a former player and head coach for the Jayhawks whose tenure lasted 39 years. The arena's nickname, The Phog also pays homage to Allen. The 1988–89 Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball team represented the University of Kansas in the 1988–89 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, which was the Jayhawks' 91st basketball season. The head coach was Roy Williams, who served his 1st year at KU. The team played its home games in Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas. The season remains, as of the 2022 tournament, the most recent tournament Kansas failed to qualify for, due to an NCAA-imposed postseason ban imposed on KU for recruiting violations committed by former coach Larry Brown. San Francisco Dons Men's Basketball
The San Francisco Dons men's basketball team represents the University of San Francisco in NCAA Division I men's college basketball. The Dons compete in the West Coast Conference, where they have won sixteen regular season championships and one conference tournament championship. The current head coach is Chris Gerlufsen. Desert Financial Arena (formerly ASU Activity Center and Wells Fargo Arena) is a 14,198-seat multi-purpose arena located at 600 E Veterans Way in Tempe, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix. It sits immediately east of Sun Devil Stadium on the northern edge of the Tempe campus of Arizona State University (ASU). Constructed in the spring of 1974 as the ASU Activity Center and at the cost of $8 million, it is the home of men's basketball, women's basketball, and women's volleyball and former home of women's gymnastics and men's wrestling. The Southern Miss Golden Eagles basketball program represents intercollegiate men's basketball at the University of Southern Mississippi.
