The 1988–89 Gonzaga Bulldogs men's basketball team represented Gonzaga University in the West Coast Conference, West Coast Athletic Conference (WCAC) during the 1988–89 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Led by seventh-year head coach Dan Fitzgerald, the Bulldogs were overall in the regular season and played their home games on campus at the Charlotte Y. Martin Centre (formerly known as Kennedy Pavilion) in Spokane, Washington. Dan Fitzgerald
Daniel John Fitzgerald (March 3, 1942 – January 19, 2010) was an American college basketball coach and athletic director at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. Fitzgerald was the head coach at Gonzaga for 15 seasons between 1978 and 1997 (except for 1981 to 1985) with an overall record of 252–171 (). He led the Bulldogs to their first appearance in the NCAA tournament in 1995, after leading them to their first post-season tournament, the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) in 1994, where they won at Stanford in the first round. They had narrowly missed an NIT selection the previous two seasons. Gonzaga returned to the NIT in 1996. Among his recruits was future Basketball Hall of Fame member John Stockton, out of Gonzaga Prep in 1980. Fitzgerald was also responsible for hiring coaches Mark Few, Dan Monson, and Bill Grier to Gonzaga. His win total was a school record until Few passed him in 2009. 1991–92 Pepperdine Waves Men's Basketball Team
The 1991–92 Pepperdine Waves men's basketball team represented Pepperdine University in the 1991–92 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by head coach Tom Asbury. The Waves played their home games at the Firestone Fieldhouse and were members of the West Coast Conference. They finished the season 24–7, 14–0 in WCC play to win the regular season conference title by a 5-game margin. After completing an unbeaten record in the conference regular season, Pepperdine ran their conference winning streak to 27 consecutive games (33 games when including WCC Tournament play) and won the West Coast Conference tournament to receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament for the second straight season. The Sobrato Center
The War Memorial at the Sobrato Center in San Francisco, California is an athletic venue on the University of San Francisco (USF) campus. It contains War Memorial Gymnasium and serves as home for the San Francisco men's and women's basketball teams as well as the women's volleyball team. It also houses athletic department offices and training facilities for the university's other athletic teams. It is currently the oldest basketball venue in the West Coast Conference. It is popularly known as "The Hilltop" because of USF's position on the summit of Lone Mountain. Prior to 1958, the USF basketball team had no permanent home. 1992 West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1992 West Coast Conference men's basketball tournament was held March 7–9 at the Chiles Center on the campus of the University of Portland in Portland, Oregon. This was the sixth edition of the tournament. Top seed Pepperdine defeated #4 seed Gonzaga 73–70 in the championship game to successfully defend their WCC tournament title. Runner-up Gonzaga had been winless in the first five editions, losing its opener (quarterfinal) each year. Dan Monson
Daniel Lloyd Monson (born October 6, 1961) is an American college basketball coach serving as the head coach at Long Beach State since April 2007. Previously he was head coach at Minnesota for over seven seasons (1999–2006), reaching postseason play five times. Before coaching the Gophers, he was the head coach at Gonzaga for two seasons, leading the Zags on an improbable run to the Elite Eight during his last season. Early years Monson is the son of college basketball coach Don Monson, and spent most of his early years in eastern Washington, where his father was a successful high school head coach in Cheney and Pasco for 18 seasons.
