1988 Windsor Municipal Election
The 1988 Windsor municipal election was held in the City of Windsor, Ontario to elect a mayor, councillors and school trustees. Results *Bob Girard was a veteran community and environmental activist in Windsor. He was a member of Surrounding Citizens Reacting Against Pollution (SCRAP) during the 1980s, and opposed the environmental practices of the Zalev Brothers scrapyard. He was also involved in a campaign to shut down CP Rail's illegal Powell Siding, and was a returning officer for Windsor—Walkerville in the 1987 and 1990 provincial elections. He managed a tree nursery in private life, and wrote occasional newspaper articles on horticultural matters. Windsor—Walkerville (federal Electoral District)
Windsor—Walkerville was a federal electoral district that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1988. It was located in the southwest corner of the province of Ontario. This riding was created in 1966 from parts of Essex East and Essex West ridings. The electoral district was abolished in 1987 when it was merged into Windsor—Lake St. Clair riding, which was later renamed Windsor—St. Clair. 1987 Ontario General Election
The 1987 Ontario general election was held on September 10, 1987, to elect members of the 34th Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The governing Ontario Liberal Party, led by Premier David Peterson, was returned to power with their first majority government in half a century, and the second-largest majority government in the province's history. Peterson had successfully managed to govern with a minority in the Legislature by obtaining the co-operation of the Ontario New Democratic Party, led by Bob Rae, in a confidence and supply agreement. It was through the NDP's support that Peterson was able to form a government, even though the Progressive Conservative Party had won a slightly larger number of seats in the previous election.
