1988 Stanford Cardinal Baseball Team
The 1988 Stanford Cardinal baseball team represented Stanford University in the 1988 NCAA Division I baseball season. The team was coached by Mark Marquess in his 12th season at Stanford. Mark Marquess
Mark Edward Marquess (born March 24, 1947) is an American college baseball coach. He served as the head coach of the Stanford Cardinal baseball team from 1977 to 2017. Early life and professional baseball career Born and raised in Stockton, California, Marquess graduated from Stagg High School (Stockton, California), Stagg High School in Stockton in 1965, then attended Stanford University from 1965 to 1969, where he played on the Stanford Cardinal baseball team at first base from 1967 to 1969 and Stanford Cardinal football, football team from 1966 to 1968 at quarterback, split end, defensive back, and punt returner. At Stanford, Marquess was a member of Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity. His freshman year roommate at Stanford was Mitt Romney, who went on to become Governor of Massachusetts and the U.S. presidential election, 2012, Republican nominee for President in 2012. College World Series Most Outstanding Player
The College World Series Most Outstanding Player is an award for the best individual performance during the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. The recipient of the award is announced at the completion of the College World Series Championship Game. The award is similar to Major League Baseball's World Series Most Valuable Player award. Since 1999, the winner of the award has received a miniature replica of "The Road to Omaha" sculpture, which is situated at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. The award measures 16 inches high. Rosenblatt Stadium
Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium was a baseball stadium in Omaha, Nebraska, the former home to the annual NCAA Division I College World Series and the minor league Omaha Royals, now known as the Omaha Storm Chasers. Rosenblatt Stadium was the largest minor league baseball stadium in the United States until its demolition (Sahlen Field now holds the record). The final College World Series game at Rosenblatt Stadium was played on June 29, 2010. The final game for the Royals in the stadium, and under the Royals name, was played on September 2, 2010, with the Royals defeating the Round Rock Express.
