The 1988 Paris–Tours was the 82nd edition of the Paris–Tours cycle race and was held on 9 October 1988. The race started in Chaville and finished in Tours. The race was won by Peter Pieters of the TVM team. Peter Pieters
Peter Pieters (born 2 February 1962) is a retired Dutch cyclist who was active between 1980 and 1998. On track, he competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in the individual 4 km pursuit and points race, and won a bronze medal in the points race at the 1991 world championships. On the road, he won the Delta Profronde (1988), Paris–Tours (1988), Profronde van Almelo (1990) and Ronde van de Haarlemmermeer (1996), as well as individual stages of the Olympia's Tour (1983), Vuelta a Burgos (1984), Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen (1984), Vuelta a Murcia (1985), Tour of Belgium (1988) and Tour of Sweden (1992). After retiring from competition he worked as a cycling coach, in particular he was successful with the Belgian national team: in 2017 the Belgium national team brought home the highest number of medals in 50 years. Hendrik Redant (born 1 November 1962 in Ninove) is a Belgian former professional cyclist. He was a directeur sportif with the Omega Pharma–Lotto cycling team until the end of the 2010 season. For 2011 he left Omega Pharma–Lotto to take up a position with the Australian Pegasus Sports Racing team. The team folded before making its debut. He currently works as a directeur sportif for UCI ProTeam . Eric Vanderaerden
Eric Vanderaerden (born 11 February 1962) is a retired road cyclist from the town of Lummen, Belgium. He was a considerable talent, winning the prologue time trial of the Vuelta a España in his debut year of 1983. During the 1983 Tour de France he also won the prologue and held the yellow jersey for two days. During the 1984 Tour de France he won two stages, including the final stage of the race which finished on the Champs Elysees in Paris. His participation in the 1985 edition was a strong one, beating the eventual Tour winner Bernard Hinault in a time trial stage. He held the yellow jersey again during this tour, this time for three days. The following year, he won the green jersey. In subsequent years, he won two monument races: in 1985, at 23, he won the storm ridden edition of the Tour of Flanders, and in 1987 he won Paris–Roubaix. Chaville () is a commune in the Hauts-de-Seine department and Île-de-France region of north-central France. It lies some 12 km from the centre of Paris in the south-western suburbs of the French capital.
