1988 Girabola
The 1988 Girabola was the tenth season of top-tier football competition in Angola. Atlético Petróleos de Luanda were the defending champions. The league comprised 14 teams, the bottom three of which were relegated. Petro de Luanda were crowned champions, winning their 5th title, and third in a row, while Desportivo de Benguela, Dínamos do Kwanza Sul, Fabril do Uíge and Inter do Namibe were relegated. Manuel of Primeiro de Agosto finished as the top scorer with 16 goals. Girabola
Girabola, or ''Campeonato Nacional de Futebol em Séniores Masculinos'', is the top division of Angolan football. It is organized by the Angolan Football Federation. The league winner and runner-up qualify for the CAF Champions League. Girabola ZAP In January 2016, Angolan subscription TV satellite and cable provider ZAP, the Angolan Football Federation and the Girabola clubs, signed a three-year deal in which ZAP will have broadcast rights over all Girabola matches. As part of the deal, the Angolan state-owned TV station TPA will be allowed to broadcast one game per week on its free-view platform. Also as part of the deal, the Girabola changes its denomination to Girabola ZAP. Sporting Clube de Benguela or simply Sporting de Benguela, is an Angolan sports club from the city of Benguela. History The club was founded in 1915, as the 21st affiliate of Sporting Clube de Portugal. Since independence in 1975, up to 1988, as occurred with all the clubs whose names originated from their former colonial power, Portugal, Sporting de Benguela was renamed as Desportivo de Benguela. The club is the owner of the Estádio do Arregaça, in the city of Benguela. The basketball team is a regular participant in the main basketball league whereas the football team remained inactive for many years, due to financial shortages.
