1988 Cork Senior Hurling Championship
The 1988 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 100th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The championship began on 1 May 1988 and ended on 16 October 1988. Midleton entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Blackrock in the second round. The final was played on 16 October 1988 at Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork, between St. Finbarr's and Glen Rovers, in what was their first meeting in the final in seven years. St. Finbarr's won the match by 3–18 to 2–14 to claim their 24th championship title overall and a first title in four years. Brian Cunningham was the championship's top scorer with 2-29. The 1984 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 96th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The championship began on 4 May 1984 and ended on 30 September 1984. Midleton entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by St. Finbarr's in the quarter-finals. University College Cork fielded a team after a two-year absence. The final was played on 30 September 1984 at Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork, between St. Finbarr's and Ballyhea, in what was their first ever meeting in the final. Bandon, County Cork
Bandon (; ) is a town in County Cork, Ireland. It lies on the River Bandon between two hills. The name in Irish means 'Bridge of the Bandon', a reference to the origin of the town as a crossing point on the river. In 2004 Bandon celebrated its quatercentenary. Bandon GAA is a Gaelic football and Hurling club based in Bandon in County Cork, Republic of Ireland. The club is affiliated with Carbery division of Cork. In 2007, Bandon won the West Cork Junior A Football Championship, beating Muintir Bhaire in the final. The club's hurling team meanwhile were runners-up in the Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship. Muskerry GAA is a Gaelic football and hurling division located in the middle region of County Cork, Ireland. It is one of eight divisions of Cork GAA County Board. The division includes clubs from areas to the west of Cork city stretching to the county bounds with Kerry. Na Piarsaigh are a hurling and Gaelic football club based in the north side of Cork City, Ireland. History Formation In 1943 a group of idealistic young men drawn mostly from the hurling nursery of North Mon laid the foundations of Cumann Iomana & Peile Na Piarsaigh. The group had its first formal meeting in the presbytery of the North Cathedral. The young men called upon one of their teachers, Donnacha Ó Murchú, for guidance and assistance. This led to him becoming the first ''Uachtarán'' [president] of the club, with Derry Terry serving as ''Runaí'' [secretary] and Paddy Sutton as ''Cisteoir'' [treasurer]. In choosing a name for the club the members sought one which would reflect their aims and ideals. Fermoy GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association based in the town of Fermoy, Cork, Ireland. The club fields teams in competitions organized by the Cork GAA county board and the Avondhu GAA divisional board. The club plays both Gaelic football and hurling.
