1988 Air Canada Cup
The 1988 Air Canada Cup was Canada's 10th annual national midget 'AAA' hockey championship, which was played in April 1988 at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The Regina Pat Canadians defeated the Calgary NorthStars to win their second national title. The host Thunder Bay Bearcats won the bronze medal. Calgary's Wes Walz was named Most Valuable Player. Fort William Gardens
The Fort William Gardens is a multi-purpose arena, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. It opened in 1951. History The Gardens opened on March 6, 1951. The Fort William Canadians defeated the Fort William Hurricanes by a 4–2 score in the first game, which was refereed by Fred Page and with a paid attendance of 5,200 tickets. The isolation of Thunder Bay and travel costs have prevented the Gardens from retaining most teams. It hosted an NHL pre-season game in 1993 between the Ottawa Senators and Washington Capitals, and two pre-season AHL games in 2002 with St. John's Maple Leafs vs. Manitoba Moose, and 2 in 2003 with Manitoba Moose vs. Toronto Roadrunners. Brent Thompson
Brent Keith Thompson (born January 9, 1971) is a Canadian former professional defenceman who played 121 games in the National Hockey League. He played for the Winnipeg Jets, Phoenix Coyotes, and Los Angeles Kings. Coaching career Thompson was formerly the head coach of the Alaska Aces of the ECHL, where he led them to a Kelly Cup Championship in the 2010–11 season. During the 2011–12, Thompson was the head coach for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League, affiliate of the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League. Dale A. Craigwell (born April 24, 1971) is a Canadian former professional hockey player who played professionally for 9 years and played parts of 3 years with the San Jose Sharks in the NHL. He played centre and shot left-handed. Biography Craigwell was born in Toronto, Ontario. As a youth, he played in the 1984 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Oshawa. Craigwell was drafted by the Sharks in the 10th round, 199th overall in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. He was the 11th player ever drafted by the Sharks. Prior to being drafted he played in the Ontario Hockey League with the Oshawa Generals for 3 years, scoring 95 points in 56 games his final year there. Chris Snell (born May 12, 1971) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman and an amateur scout (Ontario Hockey League) of the Winnipeg Jets. He was drafted in the seventh round, 145th overall, by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. Robert Gordon Pearson (born August 3, 1971) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger who played in the National Hockey League (NHL). Biography Pearson was born in Oshawa, Ontario. As a youth, he played in the 1984 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Oshawa. Pearson was drafted 12th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. He played in 269 career NHL games, scoring 56 goals and 54 assists for 110 points.
