1987–88 Denver Nuggets Season
The 1987–88 NBA season was the Nuggets' 12th season in the NBA and 21st season as a franchise. During the offseason, the Nuggets acquired Michael Adams from the Washington Bullets. The Nuggets finished first place in the Midwest Division with a 54–28 record. Head coach Doug Moe was named Coach of The Year. Doug Moe
Douglas Edwin Moe (born September 21, 1938) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. As a head coach with the Denver Nuggets in the National Basketball Association (NBA), he was named the NBA Coach of the Year in 1988. Early life Born in Brooklyn, New York, Moe was a star player at the University of North Carolina where he was a two-time All-American. However, his collegiate career ended in controversy when he admitted to being associated with a point shaving scandal. Moe received $75 from fix conspirator Aaron Wagman to fly to a meeting in New Jersey, arranged by Moe's friend, conspirator Lou Brown, but Moe reportedly turned down an offer to throw games. There is no evidence that Moe was ever involved in a fix conspiracy, but his ties to the scandal blemished his reputation. Kelvin Scarborough
Kelvin Scarborough (October 8, 1964 – December 1, 2020) was an American basketball player. He played college basketball at the University of New Mexico from 1983 to 1987. He was a 6' 1" point guard for the Lobos and head coach Gary Colson. Playing career High school Scarborough played high school basketball at Eastern High School in Washington, D.C., where he was All-Metro Conference. He was a highly sought-after recruit, noted for his quickness, penetrating ability, and perimeter shooting. 1987–88 Los Angeles Lakers Season
The 1987–88 season saw the Lakers win their eleventh NBA championship, defeating the Detroit Pistons in a hard-fought seven games in the NBA Finals to become the NBA's first repeat champions since the Boston Celtics did it in the 1968–69 NBA season. In doing so, the Lakers made good on Pat Riley's famous promise to repeat as champions. "I'm guaranteeing everybody here," Riley said at the civic celebrations following the Lakers’ 1987 championship win, "next year we’re gonna win it again." The 1987-88 NBA season was the Detroit Pistons' 40th season in the NBA and 31st season in the city of Detroit. The team played at the Pontiac Silverdome in surburban Pontiac, Michigan. The 1987–88 NBA season was the Hawks' 39th season in the NBA and 20th season in Atlanta, in the U.S. state of Georgia. The Hawks got off to a 6–5 start to the season, then won 16 of their next 18 games, and held a 30–15 record at the All-Star break.
