Portuguese Macau
Portuguese Macau (officially the Province of Macau until 1976, and then the Autonomous Region of Macau from 1976 to 1999) was a Portuguese Empire, Portuguese colony that existed from the first official Portuguese settlement in 1557 to the end of colonial rule and the transfer of sovereignty over Macau to the China, People's Republic of China in 1999. It comprised the Municipality of Macau and the Municipality of Ilhas. Macau was both the first and last European holding in China. The governor of Macau ( pt, Governador de Macau; ) was a Portuguese colonial official who headed the colony of Macau, before 1623 called captain-major ( pt, Capitão-mor). The post was replaced on 20 December 1999 upon the transfer of sovereignty over Macau to China by the office of the chief executive of Macau. Joaquim Pinto Correia
Joaquim Germano Pinto Machado Correia da Silva (16 June 1929 – 14 March 2011) was the 124th Governor of Macau from 15 May 1986 to 8 July 1987. Biography As a physician, he was the first Governor of Macau who was not a military general. He advocated humanism and social welfare during his term of office and visited Guangzhou as well as the entire Guangdong province from 22–24 February 1987. He resigned from office in May 1987, giving rise to the rumour that his resignation was related to corruption. Carlos Montez Melancia
Carlos Montez Melancia (21 August 1927 – 23 October 2022) was a Portuguese politician who was the Governor of Macau from 9 July 1987 to 23 April 1991. Biography Melancia was born in Alpiarça, Santarém District, Portugal in 1927. In 1991, his alleged corruption affairs were published in the media. He was subsequently indicted for suspected bribe taking by the Prosecutor General of the Republic, thus causing him to resign from the post in that year. Melancia was later acquitted and found innocent of all charges by the Portuguese Supreme Court in 2002. He also served as Minister of Industry and Technology (1976–1978) and Minister of the Sea (1983–1985). Melancia was the godson of José Relvas, a key figure of the 5 October 1910 revolution and prominent politician in the First Portuguese Republic.
