Television in Belgium was introduced in 1953 and began with one channel each in Dutch and French. The country is heavily cabled, with 93% of households watching television through cable as of 2003. They constitute separate markets, the common feature of which is the fact that they have been extensively cabled for three decades and are thus able to receive neighbouring countries' channels. Liliane Saint-Pierre
Liliane Saint-Pierre (born Liliane Louise Keuninckx, 18 December 1948) is a Belgian pop singer. Hailing from Flanders, she sings mostly in Dutch. She competed at Eurovision Song Contest 1987 with the song " Soldiers of Love". Biography Liliane Saint-Pierre was born in Molenstede, Flemish Brabant, as Liliane Keuninckx. She started her career in the 1960s when she was 13 years old. The biggest hit of her early success period was "We gotta stop" sung in Dutch. At that time she performed as Liliane. Her success didn't stay unnoticed. She became acquainted with Claude François, a French singer and producer, and asked him to promote her in France. He accepted the offer, but decided Liliane was too short for a stage name. He added Saint-Pierre to give it a more French sound and together with him as producer Saint-Pierre records about twenty songs. These songs were successful in Belgium and France. Eurovision Song Contest 1987
The Eurovision Song Contest 1987 was the 32nd edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Brussels, Belgium, following the country's victory at the with the song "J'aime la vie" by Sandra Kim. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster RTBF, Radio-télévision belge de la Communauté française (RTBF), the contest was held at the Brussels Expo, Centenary Palace on 9 May 1987 (also Europe Day) and was hosted by French-Belgian singer Viktor Lazlo. Twenty-two countries took part in the contest with and returning to the competition after their absences the previous year. This set the record for the highest number of competing countries up until that point. Soldiers Of Love (Liliane Saint-Pierre Song)
Belgium was represented by Liliane Saint-Pierre, with the song "Soldiers of Love", at the 1987 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 9 may in Brussels, following Sandra Kim's victory for Belgium the previous year. Saint-Pierre was the winner of the Belgian national final for the contest, held on 14 March. Before Eurovision Eurosong '87 Flemish broadcaster BRT was in charge of the selection of the Belgian entry for the 1987 Contest, while RTBF hosted the Eurovision Song Contest for Belgium due to their winning the previous year. The national final was held at the Amerikaans Theater in Brussels, hosted by Luc Appermont. Twelve singers had been invited to present a song in the selection, but Judith Vindevogel withdrew before the final, leaving eleven songs competing to become that year's Belgian entrant. Heysel Park
The Heysel Plateau (french: Plateau du Heysel, nl, Heizelplateau) or Heysel Park (french: Parc du Heysel, links=no, nl, Heizelpark, links=no), usually shortened to Heysel () or Heizel (), is a neighbourhood, park and exhibition space in Laeken, northern Brussels, Belgium, where the Brussels International Exposition of 1935 and the 1958 Brussels World's Fair (Expo '58) took place. Hold Me Now (Johnny Logan Song)
"Hold Me Now" is a song composed and performed by Irish singer Johnny Logan, which became the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1987 for . Logan had previously won with "What's Another Year?" in the 1980 contest and would go on to write the winner of the 1992 contest (" Why Me?" for Linda Martin for whom he had previously written " Terminal 3" in ). The song is usually sung by Bohemians at home matches in Dalymount Park. Seán Patrick Michael Sherrard (born 13 May 1954), better known by his stage name Johnny Logan, is an Irish singer and composer. He is known as being the only performer to have won the Eurovision Song Contest twice, in Eurovision Song Contest 1980, 1980 and Eurovision Song Contest 1987, 1987. ''Tik Tak'' is a Belgian children's television program that aired on BRTN from 1981 to 1991 and CBeebies in 2020. It was aimed at toddlers. History The program was conceived by Mil Lenssens when he saw some children fascinated by the broadcast of a lottery draw. The predictable, repetitive mix of colors, movement and musical rhythms he then developed in the program, along with Clien De Vuyst. The show There were 366 episodes produced (enough for one year, with 1 extra episode for leap years). Each episode begins with sheep (and the occasional dog) at sunset on a rotating platform, and ends with a shadow figure (Ann Ricour), who has all kinds of adventures in five differently colored books.
