1987 IAAF World Indoor Championships
The 1st IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics were held in Indianapolis, United States from March 6 to March 8, 1987. The championship had previously been known as the World Indoor Games, which were held once before changing the name. Being the second championship of its kind, there were several championship records. New championship records were set for every single women's event. There were a total number of 419 participating athletes from 85 countries. Results Men 1 Ben Johnson of Canada originally won the 60 metres in 6.41, but was disqualified in September 1989 after admitting to using steroids between 1981 and 1988. Women 1 Angella Issajenko of Canada originally finished second in the 60 metres in 7.08, but was disqualified in September 1989 after admitting to steroid use between 1985 and 1988. Faouzi Lahbi
Faouzi Lahbi (born 2 March 1960) is a retired Moroccan middle distance runner who specialized in the 800 metres. He competed at the 1983 World Championships, and at the 1984 Olympics he competed in both 800 metres and 1500 metres. He won the bronze medal at the 1987 World Indoor Championships. He went on to finish fifth in the final at the 1987 World Championships and also competed at the 1988 Olympic Games. On the regional level he won the silver medal at the 1983 Mediterranean Games and the gold medal at the 1987 Mediterranean Games, and the silver medal at the 1989 Jeux de la Francophonie. Ernesto Canto
Ernesto Canto Gudiño (18 October 1959 – 20 November 2020) was a Mexican race walker who mainly competed in the 20 kilometer walk. He competed for Mexico at the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, United States, where he won the gold medal in the men's 20 kilometer walk event. Jozef Pribilinec
Jozef Pribilinec (; born 6 July 1960) is a Slovak track and field athlete who mainly competed in racewalking. He was born in Kopernica. Pribilinec competed for the former Czechoslovakia at the 1988 Summer Olympics held in Seoul, South Korea where he won the gold medal in the men's 20 kilometre walk event. He represented Czechoslovakia for most of his career and in addition to his Olympic gold, won two silver medals at the World Championships in Athletics (1983 and 1987) and one gold and one silver at the European Athletics Championships for his country. Nigel Walker (athlete)
Nigel Walker (born 15 June 1963) is a former Welsh track and field athlete and Wales international rugby union player. He is currently Welsh Rugby Union's acting CEO, after the resignation of Steve Phillips. He was born in Cardiff. Walker represented Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the 1984 Summer Olympics in the 110 metres hurdles. Stéphane Caristan (born 31 May 1964) is a retired hurdler from France, who set the world's best year performance in 1986. Anthony Eugene Campbell (born June 14, 1960) is an American former hurdler. He is the 1988 Olympic bronze medallist in the 110m Hurdles, the 1987 World Indoor champion in the 60m hurdles, and won the 1985 World Cup title in the 110m hurdles. Terrence Paul Brahm (born November 21, 1962) is an American former long-distance runner. He was the bronze medalist in the 3000 meters at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 1987 and represented the United States in the 5000 meters at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He was the 1986 NCAA champion in that event for the Indiana Hoosiers. Career He grew up in Saint Meinrad, Indiana and attended Heritage Hills High School in Lincoln City, Indiana. Paul Donovan (athlete) (born 11 July 1963) is an Irish former long-distance runner. He was the silver medallist in the 3000 metres at the 1987 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Frank O’Mara (born 1960 in Limerick) is a former Irish runner. A three-time Olympian, he was twice World Indoor Champion in the 3000m.
