The 1987 Chicago White Sox season was the White Sox's 88th season. They finished with a record of 77-85, giving them 5th place in the American League West, 8 games behind of the 1st place Minnesota Twins. American League West
The American League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. The division has five teams as of the 2013 season, but had four teams from 1994 to 2012, and had as many as seven teams before the 1994 realignment. Although its teams currently only reside along the West Coast of the United States, west coast and in Texas, historically the division has had teams as far east as Chicago. From 1998 (when the NL West expanded to five teams) to 2012, the AL West was the only MLB division with four teams. The current champion of this division is the Houston Astros. In 2013, the Houston Astros went from the National League Central to the AL West. That move gives all six MLB divisions an equal five teams and both leagues an equal 15 teams each. Minnesota Twins
The Minnesota Twins are an American professional baseball team based in Minneapolis. The Twins compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) Central Division. The team is named after the Twin Cities area which includes the two adjoining cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The franchise was founded in Washington, D.C., in 1901 as the Washington Senators. Jerry Royster
Jeron Kennis Royster (born October 18, 1952) is an American former Major League Baseball player and coach. He was a third baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, Chicago White Sox, and the New York Yankees. He was manager of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Lotte Giants in the Korea Baseball Organization. Career He was signed by the Dodgers as an amateur free agent in 1970 at age 17. Three years later he was promoted to the Dodgers. They soon shipped him off to the Atlanta Braves as part of a six-player trade. He became a regular third baseman with the Braves and in 1976 he was named to the 1976 Topps All-Star Rookie Roster. After nine years with the Braves, Royster joined the San Diego Padres as a free agent. In 1987, he split the season with the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees. Jeffrey Scott Nielsen (born December 18, 1958) is a retired Major League Baseball pitcher. He played during four seasons at the major league level for the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox. He was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 6th round of the 1983 amateur draft. William Peter Filson (born September 28, 1958) is a retired Major League Baseball pitcher. He played during seven seasons at the major league level for the Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, and Kansas City Royals. Playing career Filson attended Temple University, and in 1977 and 1978 he played collegiate summer baseball with the Hyannis Mets of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He was selected by the Yankees in the 9th round of the 1979 MLB Draft. Filson played his first professional season with their Rookie league Paintsville Yankees and Class-A (Short Season) Oneonta Yankees in 1979, and split his last between Kansas City and their Triple-A Omaha Royals in 1990. Randy Lee Velarde (born November 24, 1962) is an American former baseball infielder and utility player who played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played the majority of his career for the New York Yankees, and also played for the California/Anaheim Angels, Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers from 1987 to 2002. Although he primarily played as a utility infielder, Velarde was utilized in the outfield as well. Velarde played college baseball at the Church of Christ-affiliated Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas from 1982 until 1985, when he was drafted by the Chicago White Sox. Donald Earl Hill (born November 12, 1960) is a former professional baseball player who played nine seasons for the Oakland Athletics, Chicago White Sox, California Angels, and Minnesota Twins of Major League Baseball. Bruce Matthew Tanner (born December 9, 1961) is an American former professional baseball player, coach and current scout. He played as a pitcher in Major League Baseball.
