Brit Awards 1987 was the 7th edition of the Brit Awards, an annual pop music awards ceremony in the United Kingdom. ] JW Marriott Grosvenor House London, originally named the Grosvenor House Hotel, is a luxury hotel that opened in 1929 in the Mayfair area of London, England. The hotel is managed by JW Marriott Hotels, which is a brand of Marriott International, and it is owned by Katara Hospitality. History The Grosvenor House Hotel was built in the 1920s and opened in 1929 on the site of Grosvenor House, the former London residence of the Dukes of Westminster, whose family name is Grosvenor. The hotel owed its existence to Arthur Octavius Edwards, who conceived and built it, then presided over it as chairman for 10 years. A.H. Jones had worked for Edwards in Doncaster. Lessons In Love (song)
"Lessons in Love" is a single from the English band Level 42, released in 1986 from the album ''Running in the Family'', issued one year later. This single is the band's biggest hit in their homeland, where it reached number three on the UK Singles Chart, and internationally, entering the top 10 in numerous countries, reaching the number-one spot in five of them: Spain, Germany, South Africa, Switzerland, and Finland. "Lessons in Love" is also one of the few singles from the band that broke into the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, where it reached number 12 in 1987. It is the first of five singles from their 1987 album, ''Running in the Family'', and it made way for the success of other singles from the album. ''London 0 Hull 4'' is the debut album by The Housemartins, released in June 1986. It contains the singles " Flag Day" (#124 UK), "Sheep" (#54 UK), " Happy Hour" (#3 UK) and " Think for a Minute" (#18 UK). The title refers to the band's home city of Kingston upon Hull and is in the format of a football score. It also refers to Paul Heaton's assertion that the Housemartins were only the fourth best band in Hull. In other words, Hull had four great bands, compared to none from London. The other three Hull bands in question were Red Guitars, Everything but the Girl and The Gargoyles. The title 'London 0 Hull 4' was used by various newspapers as a headline in October 2008 after the city's newly promoted football team, Hull City, beat West Ham United to take a fourth win out of four against London-based clubs (having previously beaten Fulham, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur). The Housemartins
The Housemartins were an English indie rock group formed in Hull who were active in the 1980s and charted three top-ten albums and six top-twenty singles in the UK. Many of their lyrics conveyed a mixture of socialist politics and Christianity, reflecting the beliefs of the band (the back cover of their debut album, ''London 0 Hull 4'', contained the message, "Take Jesus – Take Marx – Take Hope"). The group's a cappella cover version of "Caravan of Love" (originally by Isley-Jasper-Isley) was a UK Number 1 single in December 1986. ''Silk & Steel'' is the second studio album by British pop group Five Star, released on 18 August 1986. The album was the group's biggest seller, reaching number one in the UK. It was also successful in France, Germany, Austria, Netherlands and Switzerland. The Brit Award for British Producer of the Year is an award given by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), an organisation which represents record companies and artists in the United Kingdom. The accolade is presented at the Brit Awards, an annual celebration of British and international music. The award was first presented in 1977. "Through the Barricades" is a song by English new wave band Spandau Ballet, released as the second single from their 1986 fifth studio album of the same name. The song entered the UK Singles Chart on 8 November 1986 and became the band's tenth and final top-10 single, peaking at number six and spending a total of 10 weeks on the chart. Background A song about love prevailing throughout the violence and sectarianism of the Troubles, the song was inspired by the murder of Thomas Reilly, who had worked for the band, by a British soldier in Belfast during the Troubles on 9 August 1983.
