1987 200 Miles Of Norisring
The 1987 200 Meilen von Nürnberg was the sixth round of the 1987 World Sports-Prototype Championship, known as the ADAC Norisring Trophäe, as well as the second round of the 1987 German Supercup, known as the Bilstein Cup. It took place at the Norisring temporary street circuit, West Germany on June 28, 1987. Format The Norisring 200 Miles combined several competitors from the World Championship as well as a majority of entrants from the German Supercup championship. The event was run as two separate races, each running for 100 miles (77 laps). The first race would consist of the entire field, and points for the German Supercup championship were awarded based on the results of this first race. Cars which did not complete the first race, either due to accidents or mechanical failures, were not allowed to compete in the second race. The Norisring is a street circuit in Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany. Originally established as a motorcycle racing venue in 1947 and named in a 1950 competition to win a light motorcycle, the track became known as a sports car racing venue in the 1970s. Since 2000, it has been annually used by the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, the premier Germany-based touring car racing series. The length of the simple track with two hairpin turns and a chicane has been set to since 1972, after various lengths were used in its early years. Kremer Racing is a motorsports team based in Cologne, Germany, founded by racing driver Erwin Kremer and his brother Manfred. They have competed internationally with Porsches for nearly all of their existence, and were even one of the factory-backed squads for many years. Winston "Win" Percy (born 28 September 1943, near Tolpuddle, Dorset) is a former motor racing driver from England. Percy was British Touring Car Champion three times, and at the time of his retirement was the most successful non- Antipodean driver ever to compete in Australia's premier national motorsport event, the Bathurst 1000km. Ecurie Ecosse (French: "Scotland Stable") was a motor racing team from Edinburgh, Scotland. The team was founded in November 1951 by Edinburgh businessman and racing driver David Murray and mechanic Wilkie Wilkinson. Its most notable achievement was winning the 1956 and the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team also raced in three Formula One races. Raymond Anthony Bellm (born 20 May 1950) is an racing driver from the United Kingdom. Driving career He began his racing career in 1980, running in historic racing series and winning the British Historic 2-litre GT class in 1983 and 1984 driving his Chevron B19 sports car. He made the move to modern sports car racing in 1984, driving for Gordon Spice. The pair founded Spice Engineering in 1985 and construct Group C chassis. As part of the Spice team, Bellm would win the World Sportscar C2 Championship in 1985, 1986 and 1988. Fermín Vélez (April 3, 1959 – March 31, 2003) was a Spanish sports car racing driver, two-time winner of the 12 Hours of Sebring and two-time World Sportscar Championship Group C2 champion. Vélez was a driver in the Indy Racing League, racing in the 1996–1997 seasons with six career starts, including two at the Indianapolis 500. Born in Barcelona, Spain, Vélez died there of cancer. Spice Engineering was a British racing team founded by driver Gordon Spice with Raymond Bellm in the early 1980s, later becoming a successful sports car constructor in 1986.
