1986–87 FC Basel Season
The Fussball Club Basel 1893 1986–87 season was their 93rd season since the club's foundation. It was their 41st consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football since they achieved promotion in the 1945–46 season. FC Basel played their home games in the St. Jakob Stadium. Peter Max Sutter was the club's newly appointed chairman. Overview Pre-season Helmut Benthaus had returned first team manager the season before, this was his second consecutive season as coach. There were a number of changes in the team. The defenders Ertan Irizik moved on to St. Gallen, Francois Laydu moved on to Locarno, Stefano Ceccaroni moved to FC Laufen and Alfred Lüthi moved on to Grenchen. Further the midfielder Martin Jeitziner moved on to Young Boys, and the two forwards Beat Sutter moved on to Xamax and Ruedi Zbinden moved on to Grenchen. FC Basel
Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Formed in 1893, the club has been Swiss national champions 20 times, Swiss Cup winners 13 times, and Swiss League Cup winners once. FC Grenchen
FC Grenchen is a Swiss football club, based in Grenchen. They currently play in the 2. Liga, and play their matches at the Brühl Stadium. History FC Grenchen was founded in 1906. In 1937 they gained promotion to the top league of Swiss football, Nationalliga A, in these inter-war years they came runners-up in this league three times, and runner up in the cup, but their biggest success came post-war coming second in the league one further time before winning the cup the following season in 1960. They got relegated from the top flight in 1986, and played in Nationalliga B until 1995 when they were relegated to the 1st Liga., where they currently play. Bruno Hänni (born 13 October 1961) is a Swiss retired footballer who played in the 1980s as midfielder. Hänni first played for FC Oensingen. He joined FC Basel's first team for their 1986–87 season under head-coach Helmut Benthaus. After playing in seven test games, Hänni played his domestic league debut for his new club in the away game on 30 August 1986 as Basel were defeated 0–2 by Luzern. At the end of the following 1987–88 Nationalliga A season, under manager Urs Siegenthaler, Hänni and his team suffered relegation, but he stayed on with the club. Hänni scored his first league goal for his club on 1 October 1988 as Basel drew away from home against Locarno. Markus Hodel (born 4 May 1961) is a Swiss retired footballer who played in the 1980s. He played as defender. Hodel was selected for the regional team (Nordwest-Schweiz Auswahl) in 1975 and played later 15 matches for the Swiss junior national team. Hodel played for three years (1980-1982) for FC Binningen & two years from 1983 to 1985 for FC Concordia Basel in the 1st League. Markus Füri (born 25 December 1965) is a Swiss retired footballer who played in the 1980s as defender. Füri played his youth football with FC Concordia Basel and advanced to their first team in the 1984–1985 season. He played two seasons for the team in the 1st League, the third tier of Swiss football, and during this time he was noted by the scouts of the top-tier clubs. Stefan Bützer (born 17 September 1965) is a Swiss retired footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s as midfielder. Bützer played for his youth football with BSC Young Boys and advanced to their first team in the summer of 1984. Ruedi Zbinden
Ruedi Zbinden (* 30 March 1959) is a Swiss former footballer and is now Sportdirector of FC Basel. Active football career Nordstern Basel Zbinden played mainly in the position of striker, but also as a midfielder. He started his youth football by Nordstern Basel and advanced to the first team in 1978. In his first season by Nordstern they were relegated to the Nationalliga B. The following season, 1979–80, they achieved immediate promotion. Zbinden scored 12 goals in 25 games in that promotion season. He continued to play for Nordstern until the end of the 1981–82 Nationalliga A season, as the team again suffered relegation.
