1982 French Polynesian Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in French Polynesia on 23 May 1982 for the Territorial Assembly. Following the elections, a government was formed by Tahoera'a Huiraatira and Aia Api, who had won 16 of the 30 seats in the Assembly. Campaign A total of 398 candidates contested the elections representing around 30 parties and lists, of which fewer than 20 were women. Results Elected members Aftermath Following the elections, the Assembly elected members of the Government Council. As members of the Government Council could not serve in the Assembly, several new members entered the Assembly as replacements: Ernest Teinauri of Tahoera'a Huiraatira replaced Jacques Teheiura; Franklin Brotherson, Roger Doom and Albert Taruoura of Tahoera'a Huiraatira replaced Gaston Flosse, Alexandre Léontieff and Charles Tetaria, while Terii Sanford of Aia Api replaced Sylvain Millaud. Michel Buillard
Michel Buillard (born 9 September 1950) is a French Polynesian politician and former Cabinet Minister. Since 1995 he has served as the Mayor of Papeete. He was deputy of the National Assembly of France for French Polynesia's 1st constituency from 1997 to 2012. In the National Assembly, he was a member of the Union for a Popular Movement. In the Assembly of French Polynesia, he is a member of Tapura Huiraatira. Biography After attending school at the Brothers' School in Ploërmel where he obtained his baccalaureate degree in 1969, he began his professional career at the bottom of the scale at the Socrédo bank, then went on to hold administrative posts before returning to school and obtaining a degree in law from the University of Bordeaux in 1979. Gaston Tong Sang (born August 7, 1949 in Bora Bora) is a French politician and is the former President of French Polynesia. He served terms as President of French Polynesia from November 2009 until April 2011, from April 2008 until February 2009 and from December 2006 until September 2007; he is currently the Mayor of Bora-Bora. Geffry Salmon
Geffry Salmon (born 1952) is a French Polynesian politician and former Cabinet Minister. He is a member of Tahoera'a Huiraatira. Salmon is a former chair of the board of telecommunications company OPT and chief executive of Air Tahiti Nui. In early 2009 he was arrested as part of a corruption investigation into state-owned telecommunications company OPT. He was released in November 2009 after being detained for six months. The case was eventually dismissed in 2019. He served as Environment Minister and Tourism Minister in 2014. He headed Tahoera'a Huiraatira's list for the 2018 French Polynesian legislative elections after party leader Gaston Flosse was barred from public office after being convicted of corruption.
