Copa Interamericana
The Copa Interamericana ( en, Interamerican Cup) was an annual club football competition contested between a representative from North America (CONCACAF) and South America (CONMEBOL). Established in 1969, it was discontinued in 1998 after CONCACAF clubs, particularly those from Mexico, began participating in CONMEBOL competitions. The competition was intended to be contested between the winners of the North American CONCACAF Champions Cup and the South American Copa Libertadores tournaments, although the participants varied at times. The competition was usually contested over a two legged tie, with a playoff or penalty kicks if necessary. However, it was common for several consecutive editions to go unheld. Of the 18 competitions played out, four of them were contested over several matches in just one venue. Two others were held in a single match. Héctor Adolfo Enrique (born 26 April 1962 in Lanús) is a retired Argentine footballer who played as a midfielder, and who was assistant coach of the Argentina national team. Juan Gilberto Funes Baldovino (8 March 1963 – 11 January 1992), nicknamed "''El Búfalo''" (The Buffalo), was an Argentine footballer who played as a striker, known for his physical style of play. Claudio Paul Caniggia (; born 9 January 1967) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as forward or winger. Caniggia played 50 times for the Argentina national team. He appeared in three World Cups, and was a member of both rival clubs River Plate and Boca Juniors. Roque Raúl Alfaro (born 15 August 1956 in Nogoyá, Entre RÃos) is an Argentine football manager and former player who played as a striker. Playing career Alfaro started his professional career with Newell's Old Boys in the mid 1970s. In 1981, he was signed by Panathinaikos FC in Greece, and he played under the greek surname Bistakis. He returned to South America later that year to play for América de Cali in Colombia where he won two league championships. Omar Palma is a midfielder. He was born on April 12, 1958, in the city of Campo Largo in the Chaco Province of Argentina. He played most of his career for Rosario Central in Argentina. He was the top scorer of the 1986–87 season with 20 goals in 38 games for Central's championship winning campaign. Playing career Club Palma made his debut with Rosario Central in 1979, he went on to win two titles with the club, the Nacional in 1980 and the 1986-1987 championship. After his goalscoring feats of the '86–87 season he was signed by Argentine giants River Plate, but his two seasons with the club were far from successful but he did play in both legs of the Copa Interamericana 1987, which River won 3-0. Américo Rubén "El Tolo" Gallego (born 25 April 1955) is an Argentine football coach and former player. As a midfielder, he played 73 times for the Argentina national team during his playing career. Playing career As a player, Gallego debuted in the Argentine league in 1974 as a midfielder for Newell's Old Boys. After a rookie season in which he saw little action, he quickly made a name for himself and was given a starting spot and regular playing time during the 1975 season. Nelson Daniel Gutiérrez Luongo (born 13 April 1962) is a Uruguayan former footballer who played as a defender.
