The 1985–86 Alpha Ethniki was the 50th season of the highest football league of Greece. The season began on 7 September 1985 and ended on 27 April 1986. Panathinaikos won their 14th Greek title. Alpha Ethniki
The Super League Greece 1 ( el, Ελληνική Σούπερ Λιγκ 1), or Super League 1, is the highest professional association football league in Greece. The league was formed on 16 July 2006 and replaced ''Alpha Ethniki'' at the top of the Greek football league system. It consists of 14 teams and runs from August to May, with teams playing 26 games. As of May 2022, Super League Greece is ranked 15th in the UEFA ranking of leagues, based on performances in European competitions over the last five years. Since the foundation of the first official Panhellenic Championship in 1927, only six clubs have won the title. The current champions are Olympiacos, based in Piraeus. Márton Esterházy
Márton Esterházy (born 9 April 1956 in Budapest) is a Hungarian retired football player. He is a descendant of the Esterházy aristocratic family. After retiring, like his famous writer brother Péter Esterházy, he became a published author himself as well. He is also the head of the Hungarian Futsal Committee, and in February 2007 became a UEFA controller. Club career Esterházy played for Budafoki LC, Ferencváros and Honvéd, until he was acquired by AEK Athens. At AEK it didn't take long for him to impress, alongside Thomas Mavros and Hokan Sandberg they composed a "magical" triplet in the mid-80s. Highlight of his career on the goal of Pavlos Papaioannou against the Real Madrid on 18 September 1985, when with a jump over the ball he confused the opposing goalkeeper Ochotorena, as a result of which it ended up in his net. Håkan Sandberg (footballer)
Håkan Sandberg (born 27 June 1958) is a Swedish former international football player, who played as a striker. Club career Sandberg started off his footballing career with Ludvika FF, before signing with the Allsvenskan club Örebro SK in 1976. He signed with IFK Göteborg in 1981, and helped the team with the 1981–82 UEFA Cup as well as the 1982, 1983, and 1984 Swedish Championships. Dimitris Saravakos ( el, Δημήτρης Σαραβάκος; born 26 July 1961), nicknamed "The Kid" ''( el, "ο Μικρός")'', is a Greek former international footballer who played as a forward. 1985–86 Greek Football Cup
The 1985–86 Greek Football Cup was the 44th edition of the Greek Football Cup. Tournament details Totally 76 teams participated, 16 from Alpha Ethniki, 20 from Beta, and 40 from Gamma. It was held in 7 rounds, included final. An Additional Round was held between First and Second, with 6 matches, in order that the teams would continue to be 32. It was an interesting edition, with the eternal enemies, Panathinaikos and Olympiacos, to contest the Final after 11 years. Olympiacos had eliminated "big three of Thessaloniki" ( PAOK, Aris, and Iraklis), while Panathinaikos only one Alpha Ethniki team, AEK Athens, in semi-finals. In the Final, that was held in Olympic Stadium, the common home of all three teams of former P.O.K. that year, Panathinaikos achieved an impressive 4–0 victory against their opponent, completing one successful season with the win of The Double.
