1985 NCAA Division I Softball Tournament
The 1985 NCAA Division I softball tournament was the fourth annual tournament to determine the national champion of NCAA women's collegiate softball. Held during May 1985, sixteen Division I college softball teams contested the championship. The tournament featured eight regionals of two teams with the winner of each region (a total of 8 teams) advancing to the 1985 Women's College World Series at Seymour Smith Park in Omaha, Nebraska. The event held from May 22 through May 26 marked the conclusion of the 1985 NCAA Division I softball season. UCLA won the championship by defeating 2–1 in the final game. Nebraska's appearance was later vacated due to NCAA infractions. 1985 UCLA Bruins Softball Team
The 1985 UCLA Bruins softball team represented the University of California, Los Angeles in the 1985 NCAA Division I softball season. The Bruins were coached by Sharron Backus, who led her eleventh season. The Bruins played their home games at Sunset Field and finished with a record of 41–9. They competed in the Western Collegiate Athletic Association, where they finished second with a 9–3 record. The Bruins were invited to the 1985 NCAA Division I softball tournament, where they won the 1985 NCAA Division I softball tournament#Regionals, At-large Regional and then completed a run through the 1985 NCAA Division I softball tournament#Women's College World Series, Women's College World Series to claim their third NCAA Women's College World Series Championship. Arizona State Sun Devils Softball
The Arizona State Sun Devils softball team represents Arizona State University in NCAA Division I College softball. The team competes in the Pac-12 Conference, and plays its home games at Alberta B. Farrington Softball Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. Clint Myers, former head coach of the Sun Devils, guided the team to the Women's College World Series in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013. Women's College World Series
The Women's College World Series (WCWS) is the final portion of the NCAA Division I softball tournament for college softball in the United States. Eight teams participate in the WCWS, which begins with a double-elimination tournament. In other words, a team is eliminated when it has lost two games. After six teams have been eliminated, the remaining two teams compete in a best-of-three series to determine the Division I WCWS National Champion. Opponents are chosen in such a way that it is possible for any two of the eight teams to meet in the championship series. In this respect the WCWS differs from the Men's College World Series in baseball, in which the eight teams are divided into two brackets of four teams each, and the winner of one bracket meets the winner of the other bracket in the best-of-three championship series. Debbie Doom
Debra "Debbie" Ann Doom (born January 1, 1963) is an American, former collegiate All-American, retired professional right-handed softball pitcher originally from Tempe, Arizona. She played for the UCLA Bruins from 1982-1985 (where she was a three-time National Champion) and the United States' national softball team just prior to the major boom in the sport's popularity both in America and worldwide. She was the singularly most dominant pitcher in softball during her career and was remarkable for her exceptional fastball and her height (6' 1/4"). She ranks currently in numerous softball records for the Bruins and in the NCAA Division I. Doom was named the Women's Professional Softball League's inaugural World Series MVP in 1997. Nebraska Cornhuskers
The Nebraska Cornhuskers (often abbreviated to Huskers) are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. A base on balls (BB), also known as a walk, occurs in baseball when a batter receives four pitches that the umpire calls '' balls'', and is in turn awarded first base without the possibility of being called out. The base on balls is defined in Section 2.00 of baseball's Official Rules, and further detail is given in 6.08(a). It is considered a faux pas for a professional player to literally walk to first base; the batter-runner and any advancing runners normally jog on such a play. A run batted in (RBI; plural RBIs ) is a statistic in baseball and softball that credits a batter for making a play that allows a run to be scored (except in certain situations such as when an error is made on the play). For example, if the batter bats a base hit which allows a teammate on a higher base to reach home and so score a run, then the batter gets credited with an RBI.
