1984–85 Real Madrid CF Season
The 1984–85 Real Madrid Club de Fútbol season was the club's 83rd season in existence and their 54th consecutive season in the top flight of Spanish football. Summary The club announced a new coach Amancio Amaro on 21 May 1984. A former Madrid player, Amaro trained reserve team Castilla the last two seasons. The managerial change was a sign of President Luis de Carlos beginning to accelerate the transitional stage of "La Quinta del Buitre" which Amancio managed himself. The team was reinforced with Argentine forward Jorge Valdano from Real Zaragoza, with goalkeeper Otxotorena and young midfielder Michel being promoted from Castilla. During September a players labour strike occurred, and Real Madrid played the second round on 9 September 1984 with its reserve team. Copa De La Liga
The Copa de la Liga (League Cup in Spanish) was a Spanish football tournament created in 1982. Due to time constraints, saturation and club pressure, the competition only lasted four years, being cancelled in 1986. Winning the trophy helped two clubs to complete cup doubles: FC Barcelona with the Copa del Rey (1983) and Real Madrid with the UEFA Cup (1985). In all four finals, the team that played the second leg at home won the trophy. Format The League Cup was a straight knock-out competition. All ties were played over two legs, home and away, with the team with the largest aggregate score progressing. The final also consisted of two games. If the aggregate score was tied after two legs of ninety minutes each, extra-time would be played. If that failed to separate the teams, a penalty shootout would determine the winner. Emilio Butragueño
Emilio Butragueño Santos (; born 22 July 1963) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a striker. He was best known for his spell with Real Madrid. Nicknamed ''El Buitre'' (The Vulture), he was a member of the ''La Quinta del Buitre'' along with Manolo Sanchís, Rafael Martín Vázquez, Míchel and Miguel Pardeza. Miguel Ángel González Suárez (; born 24 December 1947), known as Miguel Ángel, is a Spanish former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Club career Miguel Ángel was born in Ourense, Galicia.
