1984 SANFL Season
The 1984 South Australian National Football League season was the 105th season of the top-level Australian rules football competition in South Australia. Norwood finished 5th on the ladder but won all four of its finals, to win the premiership. They became the first SANFL team to win the premiership from 5th, and the first to win from the Elimination Final. Tim Evans (footballer)
Tim Evans (born 13 August 1953) is a former Australian rules football player who played for Port Adelaide Football Club, Port Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). John Platten
John Patrick Platten (born 17 March 1963) is a retired Australian rules footballer. Platten's career began in the SANFL, where he won a Magarey Medal with Central District, and also with Hawthorn, where he played in four premierships as well as winning the 1987 Brownlow Medal. Platten remains a popular and respected figure at both clubs, and is also an inductee in both the AFL and SANFL Halls of Fame. Platten also competed in the Gladiator Team Sports Challenge in 1995. Career Platten was born in South Australia. He began (and ended) his career with Central Districts in the SANFL: a junior with Centrals, he commenced in the junior ranks in 1979 and made his league debut in 1981. Platten immediately made an impact with Centrals, becoming a full State Representative in 1982 and continued to be a regular in the state team throughout his career. 1983 SANFL Season
The 1983 South Australian National Football League season was the 104th, since 1877, of the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) Australian rules football competition. The season commenced on Saturday 2 April 1983, and concluded on Saturday 1 October 1983 with the SANFL Grand Final at Football Park with defeating by 34 points to claim their eighth premiership and first since 1961. Escort Cup Concurrently with the early rounds of the premiership season, the SANFL also ran the Escort Cup night competition with games usually being played mid-week. The Grand Final of the Cup, played under lights at the Thebarton Oval, saw win their first competition since they won the 1953 SANFL Grand Final when they defeated 7.15 (57) to 5.7 (37). With Football Park having lights installed by the 1984 SANFL season, this would be the final time that the night competition would be held at the suburban grounds of Thebarton and Norwood Oval's. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Football Park
Football Park, known commercially as AAMI Stadium, was an Australian rules football stadium located in West Lakes, South Australia, West Lakes, a western suburb of Adelaide, the state capital of South Australia, Australia. It was built in 1973 by the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and opened in 1974. Until the end of the 2013 AFL season, it served as the home ground of South Australia's Australian Football League, AFL clubs, the Adelaide Crows, Adelaide Football Club and Port Adelaide Football Club. It also hosted all SANFL finals from 1974 to 2013. Demolition of the stadium's grandstands began in August 2018, and finished in March 2019.
