George Sinner
George Albert Sinner (May 29, 1928 – March 9, 2018) was an American politician who served as the 29th governor of North Dakota from 1985 to 1992. He served two four-year terms and was the most recent governor of North Dakota from his party, the North Dakota Democratic–Nonpartisan League Party. Early life and education Sinner was born on May 29, 1928, in Fargo and was raised in Casselton, the youngest of four children to Albert Francis Sinner (1893–1965), a farmer and bookkeeper for Ford Motor Co., and his wife, Katherine Augusta Wild (1886–1981). Sinner attended Saint John's Preparatory School, a college prep boarding school in Collegeville, Minnesota, graduating in 1946. In 1950, he received a degree in philosophy from Saint John's University in Collegeville. Ruth Meiers
Ruth Meiers (November 6, 1925 – March 19, 1987) was the first female Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota. She became the 33rd Lieutenant Governor in 1985. Meiers was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer in 1986 and died in office six months later in March 1987. The Ruth Meiers Hospitality House is named in her honor. Meiers was a social worker in Mountrail County, North Dakota. In 1974, Meiers served in the North Dakota House of Representatives as a Democrat. Allen Ingvar Olson (born November 5, 1938) is an American Republican politician and attorney who served as the 28th governor of North Dakota from 1981 to 1985. He defeated incumbent Art Link in the 1980 election and served one term. Education, military service and legal career Olson was born on November 5, 1938, in the small town of Rolla, North Dakota. He received a law degree from the University of North Dakota where he joined Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and served in the United States Army as a judge advocate general's corps lawyer. In 1967 he served as Chief of Military Justice in Munich, West Germany. From 1967 to 1969 he served as the assistant director of the Legislative Research Committee, which directed the state's first study of strip mining, soil banks and land reclamation. Ernest Sands
Ernest M. Sands (April 30, 1922 – April 9, 2012) was a North Dakota Republican Party politician who served as the 32nd Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota from 1981 to 1985. Sands also served in the North Dakota Senate from 1967 to 1970 and from 1973 to 1980. Background Ernest Sands was born in Pincher Creek, Alberta and his parents were United States citizens which made him a United States citizen. In 1930, Sands and his family moved to Minot, North Dakota. He graduated from Minot High School and then went to Minot State Teachers College (now Minot State University). Sands served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II as a Bombardier for the 458th Bomb Group, 755th Squadron (B-24). On October 14, 1944, his plane was shot down over Cologne, Germany and he was able to evade capture for several days.
