1984 CECAFA Cup
The 1984 CECAFA Cup was the 12th edition of the tournament. It was held in Uganda, and was won by Zambia. The matches were played between December 1–15. CECAFA
The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations ( sw, Baraza la Mashirikisho ya Mpira wa Miguu Afrika Mashariki na Kati, french: Conseil des Associations de Football d'Afrique de l'Est et Centrale, ar, مؤتمر جمعيات شرق ووسط أفريقيا لكرة القدم; officially abbreviated as CECAFA) is an association of the football playing nations in mostly East Africa and a bit of Central Africa. An affiliate of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), CECAFA is the oldest sub-regional football organisation on the continent. History CECAFA was founded unofficially in 1927. The competition was sponsored by the major Nairobi-based soap-manufacturing firm Gossage, owned by the British Lever Brothers. Kampala
Kampala (, ) is the capital and largest city of Uganda. The city proper has a population of 1,680,000 and is divided into the five political divisions of Kampala Central Division, Kawempe Division, Makindye Division, Nakawa Division, and Rubaga Division. Philemon Mulala
Philemon Mulala (c. 1963 – 7 January 2023) was a Zambian footballer who was best known for scoring two goals in the 1984 CECAFA Cup semi-final against Kenya, on their way to their first ever cup triumph. Nicknamed ''Shombo'' (hard worker), he featured for Mufulira Wanderers in the same team as his elder brother, central defender Philemon Kaunda but is not related to Evans Mulala who also played in central defence in the same team. Career Mulala first played for Mufulira Wanderers in 1983 as a left-back who loved to go forward, often to the neglect of his defensive duties until coach Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu gave him a starting berth as a right winger and he seized the opportunity with both hands, scoring twice and creating a goal in a 5–2 league win over Konkola Blades. Mbale is a city in the Eastern Region of Uganda. It is the main municipal, administrative, and commercial center of Mbale District and the surrounding sub-region. After Extra Time
Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a Draw (tie), tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament. Lawrence Waya
Lawrence Waya (born 25 May 1963 in Mphonde, Nyasaland) is a former Malawi international football player and manager. Club career Born in the village of Mphonde in Phalombe District, Waya joined local club Bata Bullets in 1980. He spent most of his career with Bullets, but had a brief spell in the United Arab Emirates with Al Jazira Club, and finished his career with Silver Strikers F.C. International career Waya made over 100 appearances for the Malawi national football team, including seven FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. Waya won a bronze medal with Malawi at the 1987 All-Africa Games in Nairobi.
