1984 British Formula Three Season
The 1984 British Formula Three Championship was the 34th season of British Formula Three. Johnny Dumfries took the BARC/BRDC Marlboro British Formula 3 Championship. Johnny Dumfries got a drive with Team BP for the season, and ran way with the British title. The Earl of Dumfries, calling himself “Johnny Dumfries” for racing purposes, clinched the title, with three rounds still remaining. His closure rival for most of the season was Russell Spence, but pipped to second place in Championship by the consistent point finishing of Allen Berg. The British Formula Three Championship was an international motor racing series that took place primarily in the United Kingdom with a small number of events in mainland Europe. It was a junior-level feeder formula that used small single seater Formula Three chassis. Its final official title was the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series. Circuit Park Zandvoort
Circuit Zandvoort (), known for sponsorship reasons as CM.com Circuit Zandvoort, and previously known as Circuit Park Zandvoort until 2017, is a motorsport race track located in the dunes north of Zandvoort, the Netherlands, near the North Sea coast line. It returned to the Formula One calendar in 2021 as the location of the revived Dutch Grand Prix. History 1930s to mid 1980s There were plans for races at Zandvoort before World War II: the first street race was held on 3 June 1939. However, a permanent race track was not constructed until after the war, using communications roads built by the occupying German army. Dave Coyne
David Coyne (born 31 March 1958) is a British racing driver. Coyne was a rising star in Formula Ford, finishing 5th in the Formula Ford Festival in 1980 at age 22. In 1981 he moved up to the British Formula Three Championship and finished 20th while competing in only three races. He returned to the series in 1982 for six races and made a single start in 1984 and 1985. He moved to German F3 in 1986 for a single race and full-time in 1987 finishing 9th in the championship. In 1987 he won the revived European Formula Three Championship which consisted of four races. He also returned to the Formula Ford Festival for the first time since 1984. Coyne bounced around various F3 series until 1990 when he finished 4th in the British Formula Renault Championship and won the Formula Ford Festival at the age of 32 (the race is usually won by much younger drivers). Paul Radisich (born 9 October 1962, in Auckland) is a retired New Zealand racing driver and businessman of Croat origin. He has competed in saloon cars for many years — both European-style tourers and the V8 Supercars of Australia and New Zealand. Early Years In 1983 he was Formula Atlantic runner-up, earning the prestigious Driver To Europe award. In 1985 and 1986 he raced in British Formula 3, alongside Damon Hill. David Hunt (racing Driver)
David Hunt (20 May 1960 – 11 October 2015) was an English racing driver and younger brother of 1976 Formula One world champion James Hunt. Hunt started racing at 15 and moved up to Formula Ford in 1981. He competed in the British Formula Three Championship for five seasons from 1983 to 1987 against the likes of Ayrton Senna, Martin Donnelly, Martin Brundle and Damon Hill. Hunt's major sponsor in British F3 was Acorn Computers and, as part of his sponsorship deal, he served as a consultant to video game designer Geoff Crammond during the development of Revs. This was one of the first racing games designed to be highly realistic and helped spawn the sim racing genre. The game was based on the British F3 championship and, in addition to technical feedback to Crammond, Hunt contributed extensively to the game's manual. Andrew Gilbert-Scott (born 11 July 1958) is a former British racing driver. Early career He started his racing career in the Formula Ford British championship in 1981. In 1983, he moved to the Lola Formula Ford works team. Gilbert-Scott was successful, winning the RAC and Townsend Thoresen Championships. Career in Europe In 1986, he stepped up into Formula Three, and ran for the Chuck McCarthy Racing team, finishing 11th overall. West Surrey Racing is a UK-based motorsport team run by New Zealander Dick Bennetts. He is responsible for masterminding the careers of such names as Ayrton Senna, Mika Häkkinen, Jonathan Palmer, Rubens Barrichello, Maurício Gugelmin and Eddie Irvine with his involvement in F3 and a racing academy in the 80s and 90s.
