Southampton F
Southampton () is a port city in the ceremonial county of Hampshire in southern England. It is located approximately south-west of London and west of Portsmouth. The city forms part of the South Hampshire built-up area, which also covers Portsmouth and the towns of Havant, Waterlooville, Eastleigh, Fareham and Gosport. A major port, and close to the New Forest, it lies at the northernmost point of Southampton Water, at the confluence of the River Test and Itchen, with the River Hamble joining to the south. Ken Armstrong (footballer Born 1959)
Kenneth Charles Armstrong (31 January 1959 – 10 July 2022) was an English professional footballer who played as a centre half. Playing career Of Scottish parentage, Armstrong was born in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, while his father was working in the area. Spotted while playing for Beith Juniors, he made 88 appearances and scored three goals in the Scottish Football League playing for Kilmarnock, and made 94 appearances, scoring twice, in the English Football League playing for Southampton, Notts County and Birmingham City. He was part of the Southampton squad that finished second to Liverpool in the 1983–84 season. He signed for Walsall in February 1986 for a fee of £10,000, broke his ankle in his first training session, and nine months later, still only 27 years of age, retired from football because of the injury without ever playing for the club. Martin Foyle
Martin John Foyle (born 2 May 1963) is an English former professional footballer and manager who is the Head of Recruitment at club St Mirren. In his 20-year playing career he played 533 League games, scoring 155 goals. As a manager, he took charge of Port Vale and York City, Northwich Victoria, Hereford United and Southport. He started his career with Southampton as a trainee and after spending four years at the club, during which he was loaned out on two occasions, he joined Aldershot for a £10,000 fee in August 1984. An £140,000 move to Oxford United followed in March 1987, and he became Port Vale's record signing when they paid £375,000 for him in June 1991. Ian Baird
Ian James Baird (born 1 April 1964) is an English former professional footballer whose most notable spells were as a Leeds United player. During his first period at the club he spent a season as captain. He won a player of the year award in his second stint in West Yorkshire, as well as a Second Division Championship medal (following his departure). He played as a striker. Steve Williams (footballer Born 1958)
Steven Charles Williams (born 12 July 1958) is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder for Southampton, Arsenal, Luton Town, Exeter City and Derry City. Club career Southampton Williams went to school at St Edward's Church of England Secondary School in Romford, East London. He started out as an apprentice with Southampton, having been a product of the Saints' London Selection Centre and joining the club straight from school. He turned professional in 1975 and made his debut aged 17 on 6 April 1976, in a 1–0 victory away to local rivals, Portsmouth in a game where Peter Osgood was dropped for disciplinary reasons. Nick Holmes (footballer)
Nicholas Charles Holmes (born 11 November 1954) is an English former professional footballer. He won the FA Cup Final with Southampton in 1976 and, from July 2002 to July 2009, was manager of Salisbury City. Career Holmes was born in Southampton and educated at St. Mary's College. Southampton Holmes was an apprentice with Southampton in the early 1970s. He made his first team debut on 2 March 1974 away to Arsenal. David Armstrong (footballer Born 1954)
David Armstrong (26 December 1954 – 21 August 2022) was an English footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He spent most of his career with Middlesbrough (from 1972 to 1981), before moving to Southampton in August 1981, where he played for a further six seasons. He finished his league career with AFC Bournemouth in 1987–88. Football career Armstrong was part of the Middlesbrough side of the 1970s managed by Jack Charlton which won the Second Division title and was a consistent Division One team for most of the decade. Dennis Rofe (born 1 June 1950, in Epping, Essex, United Kingdom) is a former professional football player, who spent most of his playing career with Leicester City before spending many years in various coaching capacities at Southampton. Early days Rofe attended Whitechapel Secondary School, together with Terry Brisley, who later played alongside him at Leyton Orient. He also represented East London Schools. Ivan Golac
Ivan Golac ( sr-cyr, Иван Голац, ; born 15 June 1950) is a Yugoslav former professional football player and manager. A Yugoslav international right-back, he is best known as a player and manager of FK Partizan, of Belgrade. In the United Kingdom he is remembered as one of Southampton's first foreign imports and as a Scottish Cup-winning manager with Dundee United. Playing career Partizan Golac was born in Koprivnica in PR Croatia, then part of FPR Yugoslavia, to Croat parents Ivan, who was a soldier in President Tito's guard, and Marija, both of whom hail from Lič in Gorski Kotar. Mark Dennis (footballer)
Mark Earl Dennis (born 2 May 1961) is an English former professional footballer who played at left-back for Birmingham City, Southampton, Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace. He was capped three times for England under-21s. Dennis was born in Streatham, London. As a player, he was a First Division runner-up with Southampton in 1983–84, and won promotion from the Second Division in 1979–80 with Birmingham City. He was their Player of the Year the previous season. Mark Wright (footballer Born 1963)
Mark Wright (born 1 August 1963) is a former England international football player and English football manager. As a player, he had spells with Liverpool, Derby County, Southampton and Oxford United during the 1980s and 1990s. He made 45 appearances for the England national team, and was a member of the team which reached the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup in 1990.
