The 1982 Volta a Catalunya was the 62nd edition of the Volta a Catalunya cycle race and was held from 8 September to 15 September 1982. The race started in Platja d'Aro and finished at Salou. The race was won by Alberto Fernández of the Teka team. Alberto Fernández (cyclist)
Alberto Fernández Blanco (15 January 1955 - 14 December 1984) was a Spanish road racing cyclist. His son Alberto Fernández Sainz is also a road racing cyclist. Fernández was born in Cuena, Cantabria. As an amateur, he won the Spanish mountain bike championships, and turned professional in 1978. During his career, he was nicknamed ''el Galleta'' ("the Biscuit"), because the town where he lived, Aguilar de Campoo, had several biscuit factories. Fernández tested positive for the stimulant Methylphenidate (Ritalin) on stage 17 of the 1982 Vuelta a España. His best results came during the last two years of his career. He finished 10th overall in the 1982 Tour de France, and 3rd in his first appearance in the 1983 Giro d'Italia. He also finished 3rd in the 1983 Vuelta a España, improving to 2nd in 1984, only 6 seconds behind winner Éric Caritoux (the smallest winning margin in any of the Grand Tours). Hubert Seiz
Hubert "Hubi" Seiz (born 23 August 1960) is a former Swiss racing cyclist. He competed in the individual road race event at the 1980 Summer Olympics. He was the Swiss National Road Race champion in 1988. He now works as a driving instructor (car and motorbike) in Uttwil, Switzerland, as well as providing WAB instruction (mandatory course after obtaining a Swiss driving licence) at the driving school "Driving Park" in Winterthur, Switzerland. Steven Rooks
Steven Rooks (born 7 August 1960) is a former Dutch professional road racing cyclist known for his climbing ability. His professional career ran from 1982–1995. Career In the 1988 Tour de France, Rooks finished second and won a finish on L’Alpe d’Huez. He won the polka dot jersey for the mountains classification and the Présence Classification (or combination classification). In the 1989 Tour, Rooks won Stage 15, a 39 km mountain top time trial to Orcières-Merlette; he finished seventh that year and again won the Présence Classification, the final year of that award. Other victories include the 1983 Liège–Bastogne–Liège, the 1986 Tour de Luxembourg and Amstel Gold Race, a stage at the 1987 Tour de Suisse, the 1988 Züri-Metzgete, and 1994 national championship. Faustino Rupérez Rincón (born 29 July 1956) is a Spanish former professional road racing cyclist who raced between 1979 and 1985. Ruperez is most famous for capturing the overall title at the 1980 Vuelta a España. Pedro Muñóz Machín Rodríguez (born 6 November 1958 in Mieres) is a former Spanish professional road bicycle racer. He won a stage in the 1981 Vuelta a España and finished on the podium in 2nd place overall. He received a penalty for testing positive for the stimulant Methylphenidate (Ritalin) on stage 17 of the 1982 Vuelta a España. He finished the race in 25th overall. In 1983 he finished in 8th place overall at the Vuelta and won a stage in the 1983 Giro d'Italia finishing in 11th place overall. In 1984 he rode the Tour de France for the first time and performed well. He finished 2nd to Greg LeMond in the Young rider classification and 8th place overall. Salou
Salou () is a municipality of the ''comarca'' of Tarragonès, in the province of Tarragona, in Catalonia, Spain.
