The 1982 Tirreno–Adriatico was the 17th edition of the Tirreno–Adriatico cycle race and was held from 13 March to 18 March 1982. The race started in Cerenova Constantica and finished in San Benedetto del Tronto. Giuseppe Saronni (born 22 September 1957), also known as Beppe Saronni, is an Italian former racing cyclist. He had remarkable success riding in the Giro d'Italia. In 1980 he won 7 stages and finished 7th overall, in 1981 he won 3 stages and finished 3rd overall. In 1979 and 1983 he would win the Giro d'Italia and all total for his career win 24 stages in this race. Saronni currently works an advisor for UCI WorldTeam . Career Born in Novara, Piedmont, Saronni turned professional in 1977. During his career, that lasted until 1989, he won 193 races. Daniel Gisiger (born 9 October 1954, in Baccarat) is a retired Swiss road and track cyclist. He grew up in Bienne, in RC Olympia Biel-Bienne. One of his strongest disciplines was the road time trial where he twice won the prestigious Grand Prix des Nations time trial in 1981 and 1983, generally regarded at the time as the unofficial world time trial championship as well as the Trofeo Baracchi a two-man team time trial on three occasions, once each with Serge Demierre, Roberto Visentini and Silvano Contini. He was one of the first world-class riders to use a special aerodynamic bike with concealed cables and aerodynamic components and also placed emphasis on aerodynamic clothing by wearing a one-piece Lycra skinsuit. In his earlier pre-professional years he broke the World Hour Record for amateur riders with 46.745 km, just 1,686 metres short of Eddy Merckx's professional record set at a higher altitude in 1972 in Mexico City. Theo de Rooij (born 25 April 1957 in Harmelen) is a retired Dutch former bicycle racer and former manager of the Rabobank cycling team - a position from which he resigned after the 2007 Tour de France. De Rooij was a professional rider from 1980 to 1990. He started his career in Belgian teams and the last eight years of his careers he served teams managed by Peter Post. Francesco Moser ( or ; ; born 19 June 1951), nicknamed "Lo sceriffo" (The sheriff), is an Italian former professional road bicycle racer. He turned professional in 1973, showing a cultured pedaling style. But his powerful build meant he was not a gifted climber. He entered one edition of the Tour de France, in 1975, where he won two stages, held the Maillot Jaune for six days and finished 7th overall. He also won the 1977 world road racing championship in addition to collecting silver medals in 1976 and 1978. He won six times in three of the five monuments. Gerard Friedrich "Gerrie" Knetemann (6 March 1951 in Amsterdam – 2 November 2004 in Bergen, North Holland) was a Dutch road bicycle racer who won the 1978 World Championship. He wore the Yellow Jersey early in each Tour de France for four consecutive years between 1977 and 1980. A four-time winner of the Ronde van Nederland, he also rode the Tour de France 11 times between 1974 and 1987, winning 10 stages, a Dutch record equalled only by Jan Raas and Joop Zoetemelk. Knetemann won 127 races as a professional. Knetemann maintained an Amsterdam accent and a sharp sense of humour that made him a favourite with reporters and earned him television and radio appearances.
