The 1982 Scotland rugby union tour of Australia was a series of nine matches played by the Scotland national rugby union team in Australia in June and July 1982. The Scotland team won six and lost the other three. They drew the two-match international series against the Australia national rugby union team, winning the first game but losing the second. In their non-international games they were beaten by the Queensland state team and the Sydney representative team. The Scotland national rugby union team represents Scotland in men's international rugby union and is administered by the Scottish Rugby Union. The team takes part in the annual Six Nations Championship and participates in the Rugby World Cup, which takes place every four years. As of 4 December 2022, Scotland are 7th in the World Rugby Rankings. The history of the team extends back to 1871 when the Scottish rugby team played their first official test match, winning 1–0 against England at Raeburn Place. David Johnston (rugby Union, Born 1958)
David Ian Johnston (born 20 October 1958) is a Scottish former rugby union player. Johnston played 27 times at centre for the Scotland national rugby union team. He was formerly a commercial property partner in Burness Solicitors. Football Johnston attended George Watson's College in Edinburgh and played rugby union, captaining the Scotland schoolboys team. He also played football, even though his school didn't have football teams. Johnston attracted the attention of football scouts with his performances for the Hutchison Vale boys club. He signed for Heart of Midlothian in 1977 and made one appearance in a First Division match against Dundee, but was substituted due to injury. He left Heart of Midlothian in 1978 and became a rugby player, while also studying for a law degree. Rugby Johnston joined Watsonians RFC after ending his football career. Jim Pollock (born 16 November 1958) in Newcastle is a Scottish former international rugby union player. His nickname was "Lucky Jim". Jim played eight games for Scotland between 1982 and 1985. Roger Baird
Roger Baird (born 12 April 1960 in Kelso, Scotland) is a former Scotland international rugby union player. Rugby Union career Amateur career Baird attended St. Mary's School, Melrose and Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh. Both schools are noted for producing strong rugby players, and he went on to play scrum-half for the Scottish Schools team. He played for the full Kelso sevens team while still at Merchiston, collecting a Melrose winner's medal at 17. Bill McLaren considered him an exceptional sevens player. Jim Telfer
James Telfer (born 17 March 1940) is a Scottish former rugby union coach and player. As a player, he won 21 international caps in the amateur era, also having a career as a headmaster at Hawick High School and Galashiels Academy and Forrester High School as a chemistry teacher. With Sir Ian McGeechan he had success with both the Scotland national team and the British Lions. Playing career Telfer played for Melrose RFC and was still a student when he was first selected for international duties. He later worked as a chemistry teacher. His first cap came against France at Murrayfield on 4 January 1964. His last match for Scotland was on 28 February 1970 at Lansdowne Road against Ireland.
