The National Soccer League (NSL) was the top-level soccer league in Australia, run by Soccer Australia and later the Australian Soccer Association. The NSL, the A-League's predecessor, spanned 28 seasons from its inception in 1977 until its demise in 2004, when it was succeeded by the A-League competition run by Football Federation Australia, the successor to the Australian Soccer Association. During the history of the NSL the league was contested by a total of 42 teams; 41 based in Australia and one based in New Zealand. Seasons initially ran during the winter seasons, until 1989 when this was changed to the summer season. St George FC, commonly called Saints or Budapest, is a semi-professional Australian soccer club based in the St George district in the south of Sydney. The club was founded by Hungarian immigrants in 1957 as Budapest Club and by 1965 was renamed to St. George-Budapest Club. One of the top clubs of Australia from the 1960s to the 1980s, St George currently competes in the third-highest tier of Australian soccer, the NSW League One. Frank Arok
Ferenc "Frank" Arok ( hu, Árok Ferenc; 20 January 1932 – 12 January 2021) was a Yugoslavian-Australian ethnic Hungarian association football player and coach. Career Arok played for FK Jedinstvo in Yugoslavia during the 1950s before coaching. In the early 1960s Arok coached FK Novi Sad and FK Vojvodina before moving to Australia. Peter Katholos
Peter Katholos ( el, Πέτρος Κάθολος; born 18 March 1961) is an Australian former soccer player. He was a member of the Socceroos, Australia's national soccer team, throughout the 1980s during which time he made 22 international appearances (14 ' A-matches'), scoring two goals. He is best known for his time as a midfielder with Sydney Olympic and later Marconi in the Australian National Soccer League, although he also played for the Greek team Larissa at one stage. Katholos emigrated from Greece to Australia with his parents as a nine-year-old. Playing career Club career Katholos played for St George 35 times during the 1979 and 1980 National Soccer League seasons.
