Group A was one of four groups of national teams competing in the second stage of the 1982 FIFA World Cup The 1982 FIFA World Cup was the 12th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial Association football, football tournament for men's senior national teams, and was played in Spain between 13 June and 11 July 1982. The tournament was won by Italy national foo .... The group's three matches were staged at the Nou Camp in Barcelona. The group consisted of three teams advancing from the first group stage: Group 1 winners Poland, Group 3 winners Belgium and Group 6 runners-up the Soviet Union. Poland topped the group and advanced to the semi-finals, where they were defeated by eventual champions Italy. The 1982 FIFA World Cup was the 12th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial Association football, football tournament for men's senior national teams, and was played in Spain between 13 June and 11 July 1982. The tournament was won by Italy national football team, Italy, who defeated Germany national football team, West Germany 3–1 in the final, held in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the capital, Madrid. It was Italy's third World Cup title, but their first since 1938 FIFA World Cup, 1938. Paweł Janas
Paweł Janas (; born 4 March 1953) is a Polish football manager and former footballer. Career Club He began his playing career for the Włókniarz Pabianice team in 1965, but later left the club in 1973. National team From 1976 to 1984, he won 53 international caps for Poland. Janas played at centre-back in all seven of Poland's games at the 1982 World Cup in Spain where the team achieved an unexpected third place. Manager career Janas' coaching career started as an assistant at Legia Warszawa in 1988. He later ended his work at Legia Warszawa in 1990, and took up a post helping Władysław Stachurski lead the Polish youth squad. Jacek Kazimierski (born 17 August 1959 in Warsaw) is a Polish former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He began his career in Agrykola Warsaw and later played for Legia Warsaw, Olympiacos and K.A.A. Gent. Andrzej Szarmach
Andrzej Szarmach (; born 3 October 1950) is a former Polish football player. He played in the Polish national team during its "golden age" in the 1970s. With Grzegorz Lato at his right, Robert Gadocha at his left, and Kazimierz Deyna in support, Szarmach profited from the absence of Włodzimierz Lubański to lead the Polish attack, the best at 1974 World Cup, with sixteen goals. While Lato finished first in the Cup in goals with seven, Szarmach, with five goals, also marked the competition with his imprint. He confirmed his status two years later at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, winning the silver medal and the title of best player of the tournament, with nine goals. Włodzimierz Wojciech Smolarek (16 July 1957 – 7 March 2012) was a Polish footballer who played as a winger or an attacking midfielder. He played most of his 20-year professional career with Widzew Łódź and Utrecht, appearing in more than 200 official games for the former. Waldemar Józef Matysik (born 27 September 1961, in Stanica) is a retired Polish footballer. He played mostly for Górnik Zabrze, where he scored seven goals in 127 matches. Janusz Bogdan Kupcewicz (9 December 1955 – 4 July 2022) was a Polish professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Widely regarded as one of the best Polish players of his era, he most notably won the bronze with the national team at 1982 World Cup, in which he was a key player with his final goal being instrumental in the success.
