1982 FIFA World Cup Group 5
Group 5 was one of six groups of national teams competing in the group stage of the 1982 FIFA World Cup. Play began on 16 June and ended on 25 June 1982. The group consisted of four teams: Seeded team and host nation Spain, World Cup debutants Honduras, Yugoslavia and Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland won the group after defeating Spain in their final group game, who also progressed to the second round in a game marred by controversy, as was the West Germany-Austria game that was later described as the Disgrace of Gijón where only the scoreline was 1- 0 for Northern Ireland led both teams to the second round of the competition. The match between Northern Ireland and Spain was played the day after Yugoslavia defeated Honduras, so the Northern Irish and the Spanish knew even a day earlier which result was needed for their progress in the World Cup. 1982 FIFA World Cup
The 1982 FIFA World Cup was the 12th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial Association football, football tournament for men's senior national teams, and was played in Spain between 13 June and 11 July 1982. The tournament was won by Italy national football team, Italy, who defeated Germany national football team, West Germany 3–1 in the final, held in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the capital, Madrid. It was Italy's third World Cup title, but their first since 1938 FIFA World Cup, 1938. The defending champions, Argentina national football team, Argentina, were eliminated in the second round (finishing third and last in their group). Julio César Arzú (born 5 June 1954) a.k.a. Tile is a retired Honduran football player. José Emilio SantamarÃa Iglesias (born 31 July 1929) is a retired football central defender and manager. He spent his 18-year career with Nacional and Real Madrid, winning a combined 17 titles including four European Cups with the latter club. Francisco Javier González Urruticoechea (17 February 1952 – 24 May 2001), known as Urruti, was a Spanish footballer who played as a goalkeeper. At FC Barcelona, a club known for goalkeepers like Franz Platko, Antoni Ramallets, Juan Velasco and Ricardo Zamora, he became a legend, playing 307 La Liga games over the course of 16 seasons and also representing in the competition Real Sociedad and Español. Enrique Castro González (; 23 September 1949 – 27 February 2018), known as Quini , was a Spanish footballer who played as a striker. Enrique Saura Gil (born 2 August 1954) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. In his career, he played mainly for Castellón and Valencia, appearing in more than 400 official games with the latter and winning three major titles. Santiago Urquiaga Pérez (born 18 April 1958) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a right back. Juan Gómez González (10 November 1954 – 2 April 1992), known as Juanito, was a Spanish footballer who played as a forward.
