1982 FIFA World Cup
The 1982 FIFA World Cup was the 12th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial Association football, football tournament for men's senior national teams, and was played in Spain between 13 June and 11 July 1982. The tournament was won by Italy national football team, Italy, who defeated Germany national football team, West Germany 3–1 in the final, held in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the capital, Madrid. It was Italy's third World Cup title, but their first since 1938 FIFA World Cup, 1938. Alberto Tarantini
Alberto César Tarantini (born 3 December 1955) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a defender. He won the 1978 FIFA World Cup with the Argentina national football team. He played as a defensive left back early in his career, and later as a wing back. Career Born at Ezeiza, Tarantini rose through the Boca Juniors youth divisions in the early 1970s, and was noted for his afro hairdo and his large front teeth, which earned him the nickname ''conejo'' ("rabbit"). In 1977 with Boca Juniors he won his first international club football competition and one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world and the most prestigious club competition in Latin American football – Copa Libertadores, when after the goalless draw Boca defeated Cruzeiro 5–4 on penalties. Jean-Marie Pfaff
Jean-Marie Pfaff (born 4 December 1953) is a Belgian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper who spent most of his professional career with Beveren and Bayern Munich. Pfaff was capped 64 times playing for Belgium, and participated at the 1982 FIFA World Cup and 1986 FIFA World Cup tournaments. Club career Pfaff was born in Lebbeke. José Daniel van Tuyne (born 13 December 1954 in Rosario) is an Argentine former footballer who played as a defender. Club career Van Tuyne started his career with Rosario Central in 1974. Jorge Alberto Francisco Valdano Castellanos (born 4 October 1955) is an Argentine former football player, coach, and the former general manager of Real Madrid. He is currently working as a commentator for beIN Sports. Nicknamed "The Philosopher of Football", he played as a forward. Patricio Hernández
Patricio Hernández (born 16 August 1956) is an Argentine football coach and former player. Hernández started his career in 1974 at Estudiantes de La Plata, a club that he would later manage. He soon earned a reputation as a skillful attacking midfielder, with a very precise shot. He was transferred to Italian team Torino F.C. in 1982 for a then record transfer fee for Estudiantes. This record fee allowed Estudiantes to build an excellent roster, who won championships in 1982 and 1983. Argentina coach César Menotti included Hernández in the 1982 FIFA World Cup squad as his third choice for creative midfielder, behind Diego Maradona and José Daniel Valencia. Juan Barbas
Juan Alberto Barbas (born 23 August 1959 in San Martín, Buenos Aires) is a retired Argentine footballer who played as an attacking or defensive midfielder. He played for a number of clubs in Argentina, Spain, Italy, and Switzerland before turning his hand to management in 2009 with Racing Club de Avellaneda. Club career Barbas started his career in 1977 at Racing Club de Avellaneda in the Argentine Primera División. He then went on to play for Real Zaragoza in Spain, U.S. Lecce in Italy, FC Locarno, and FC Sion in Switzerland. Barbas was a part of the Sion team that won the 1991–1992 Swiss Championship. Héctor Baley
Héctor Rodolfo Baley (born 16 November 1950 in Bahía Blanca) is an Argentine former professional football goalkeeper. Baley was a goalkeeper in Argentina's 1978 FIFA World Cup winning squad and also in the 1982 tournament. Given goalkeeper Ubaldo Fillol's consistent performances, he ended up playing only a few matches for the national team. His career started in the Zubeldía era of Estudiantes de La Plata, where he was one of several goalkeepers who tried to fill in for suspended Alberto Poletti. In 1978 Baley was part of the Independiente team that won the Nacional championship of 1978. He also played for Huracán, Colón de Santa Fe, and for Talleres de Córdoba, where he was badly injured during the last game of the 1982–83 season (the game that handed the championship to Estudiantes, the team he started his career with). Ricardo Daniel Bertoni (born 14 March 1955) is an Argentine former footballer who played as a right or left winger. In Argentina, he had a successful career at Club Atlético Independiente, where he won three Copa Libertadores, one Intercontinental Cup and three Copa Interamericana throphies. Mario Alberto Kempes Chiodi (; born 15 July 1954) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a striker or attacking midfielder. A prolific goalscorer, he finished as La Liga's top goalscorer twice with Valencia and amassed 116 goals in 184 league games for the club. At international level, Kempes was the focal point of Argentina's 1978 World Cup win where he scored twice in the final and received the Golden Boot as top goalscorer.
