1982 BC Lions Season
The 1982 BC Lions finished in fourth place in the West Division with a 9–7 record. Despite the winning record, they still failed to make the playoffs. Vic Rapp and the coaching staff were fired at the end of the season. Rookie receiver Merv Fernandez had a great season and was the runner-up in the Schenley Rookie of the Year award voting. The final game at Empire Stadium was played on November 6th against Montreal. Willie Fleming was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame. Canadian Football League West Division

Vic Rapp
Victor Max Rapp (December 23, 1929 – October 24, 2016) was an American and Canadian football coach who served as the head coach of the BC Lions from 1977 to 1982. Early career Rapp was born in 1929 in Marionville, Missouri. A graduate of the University of Missouri, Rapp served as the Tigers end coach from 1967 to 1971. In 1972, he became the offensive coordinator of the Canadian Football League's Edmonton Eskimos. During his tenure in Edmonton, the Eskimos appeared in the Grey Cup four times; winning in 1975. Rapp left Edmonton in 1977 to become the receivers coach at Miami. Less than three weeks after accepting the Miami job, BC Lions general manager Bob Ackles hired Rapp to replace Cal Murphy as Lions head coach. Empire Stadium (Vancouver)
Empire Stadium was a multi-purpose stadium that stood at the Pacific National Exhibition site at Hastings Park in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Track and field and Canadian football, as well as soccer, rugby and musical events, were held at the stadium. The stadium was originally constructed for the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. The stadium (which sat 32,375 upon opening, but 30,229 after 1974) hosted both Elvis Presley and The Beatles. It saw most of its use as the home of the BC Lions of the CFL from 1954 to 1982, in which the venue also played host to the first Grey Cup game held west of Ontario in 1955. 1982 CFL Season
The 1982 CFL season is considered to be the 29th season in modern-day Canadian football, although it is officially the 25th Canadian Football League season. BC Lions
The BC Lions are a professional Canadian football team based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Lions compete in the West Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL), and play their home games at BC Place. The Lions played their first season in 1954, and have played every season since, making them the oldest professional sports franchise in British Columbia. They have appeared in the league's Grey Cup championship game 10 times, winning six, with their most recent championship occurring in 2011. Edmonton Eskimos
The Edmonton Elks are a professional Canadian football team based in Edmonton, Alberta. The club competes in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member of the league's West Division and plays their home games at the Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a professional Canadian football team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Blue Bombers compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member club of the league's West division. They play their home games at IG Field. Calgary Stampeders
The Calgary Stampeders are a professional Canadian football team based in Calgary, Alberta. The Stampeders compete in the West Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The club plays its home games at McMahon Stadium and are the third-oldest active franchise in the CFL. The Stampeders were officially founded in 1945, although there were clubs operating in Calgary since the 1890s. Saskatchewan Roughriders
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are a professional Canadian football team based in Regina, Saskatchewan. Nick Hebeler
Nick Hebeler (born July 18, 1957) is a former professional Canadian football defensive lineman who played nine years in the Canadian Football League, for the BC Lions from 1979 to 1985 and the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1986 and 1987. Hebeler played 86 games for the B.C. Lions and recorded 68.5 sacks during that time. He was a part of the 1985 Lions' Grey Cup championship team. Mervyn Fernandez
Mervyn L. Fernandez (born December 29, 1959), nicknamed Swervin' Mervyn, is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver with the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and Los Angeles Raiders in the National Football League (NFL). Fernandez was a two-time CFL All-Star (1984–1985) and is a member of the BC Lions Wall of Fame. In 2003, Fernandez was voted a member of the BC Lions All-Time Dream Team, at the wide receiver position, as part of the club's 50-year anniversary celebration.
