1982 All England Open Badminton Championships
The 1982 John Player All England Open was the 72nd edition of the All England Open Badminton Championships. It was held in 1982, in Wembley, London. During an International Badminton Federation meeting in London on March 23, 1981 it was agreed to re-elect the twenty members of the breakaway World Badminton Federation. This included China which consequently resulted in some of the world's top players returning to compete in the All England Championships. Verawaty Wiharjo
Verawaty Fadjrin (; 1 October 1957 – 21 November 2021) was an Indonesian badminton player who won international titles spanning from the late 1970s to the end of the 1980s. Tall and powerful, at one time or another she played each of the three variations of the sport (singles, doubles, and mixed doubles) at the highest world level. Career During a relatively brief period as a regular singles competitor, Fadjrin won the 1980 IBF World Championships in Jakarta over fellow countrywoman Ivana Lie. She had been runner-up to Denmark's Lene Køppen at the All England Open Championships that year. She won the Southeast Asian Games title in 1981 and the Indonesia Open in 1982. Most of her early titles in women's doubles were in partnership with Imelda Wiguno. Li Yongbo (; born September 18, 1962) is a retired Chinese male badminton player and the former head coach of Chinese National Badminton Team. Career As a player, he was a men's doubles specialist noted for his quickness, reflexes, and power. From the mid-1980s to the early 1990s he shared numerous international titles with his regular partner Tian Bingyi. They were contemporaries and rivals of the famous Korean pair Park Joo-bong and Kim Moon-soo, largely dividing badminton's biggest doubles events between them for about eight seasons. Liem Swie King (; born 28 February 1956) is an Indonesian former badminton player who excelled from the late 1970s through the mid-1980s. He won the All England in 1978, 1979 and 1981. He was one of the world's leading singles players of his era. A world level player in men's doubles as well as men's singles, he was known for the ferocity of his jumping smash.
