The 1981–82 Lancashire Cup (known as the Forshaws Lancashire Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the 69th staging of the rugby league knockout competition, the RFL Lancashire Cup, Lancashire Cup. Leigh Centurions, Leigh won the trophy with an 8–3 win against Widnes Vikings, Widnes. Background This season saw the introduction of two new non-Lancashire clubs, Carlisle RLFC, Carlisle and London Broncos, Fulham, increasing the number of clubs in the competition from 14 to 16, meaning there was no longer a need for any teams to receive byes in the first round. In his column for the ''Manchester Evening News'', Warrington Wolves, Warrington player Ken Kelly (rugby league), Ken Kelly was especially critical of the addition of London-based Fulham, arguing it makes a mockery of the competition. Leigh Centurions
The Leigh Leopards are a professional rugby league club based in Leigh, Greater Manchester, England, who compete in the Betfred Super League. The club was founded in 1878, and is one of the original twenty-two clubs that formed the Northern Rugby Football Union in 1895. Leigh have been Rugby League Champions twice, in 1906 and 1982, and have won the Challenge Cup twice, in 1921 and 1971. The club was known simply as Leigh until 1995, when they became known as Leigh Centurions. On 20 October 2022, the club rebranded to its current identity. History 1878–1915: Early history Leigh RFC was founded in 1878 by a surveyor named Fred Ulph.
