Ralph Bakshi
Ralph Bakshi (born October 29, 1938) is an American animator and filmmaker. In the 1970s, he established an alternative to mainstream animation through independent and adult-oriented productions. Between 1972 and 1992, he directed nine theatrically released feature films, five of which he wrote. He has been involved in numerous television projects as director, writer, producer, and animator. Beginning his career at the Terrytoons television cartoon studio as a cel polisher, Bakshi was eventually promoted to animator, and then director. He moved to the animation division of Paramount Pictures in 1967 and started his own studio, Bakshi Productions, in 1968. Through producer Steve Krantz, Bakshi made his debut feature film, ''Fritz the Cat'', released in 1972. It was based on the comic strip by Robert Crumb and was the first animated film to receive an X rating from the Motion Picture Association of America, and is the most successful independent animated feature of all time. ''The Smurfs'' ( syndicated as ''Smurfs' Adventures'') is an animated fantasy-comedy children's television series that originally aired on NBC from 12 September 1981 to 2 December 1989, lasted for eight years. Produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, it is based on the Belgian comic series by the same name, created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo (who also served as story supervisor of this adaptation) and aired for 258 episodes with a total of 419 stories, excluding three cliffhanger episodes and seven specials. Disney on Ice, originally Walt Disney's World on Ice, is a series of touring ice shows produced by Feld Entertainment's Ice Follies And Holiday on Ice, Inc. under agreement with The Walt Disney Company. Aimed primarily at children, the shows feature figure skaters portraying the roles of Disney characters in performances derived from various Disney films. Jan Gissberg
Jan Gissberg (born 13 August 1948) is a Swedish cartoonist, animator and film director.''Nationalencyklopedin'' bibliographical entry about Gissberg, retrieved 16 November 2013 After studying at Konstfack in Stockholm he started working as an animator under Stig Lasseby, and later went on to direct by himself. As a cartoonist he is best known for drawing Rudolf Petersson's 91:an Karlsson, and for his high production speed. Gissberg started drawing already as a child. After high school, he trained in the advertising/illustration line at Konstfack but interrupted his studies to devote himself to animation and cartooning. He also contributed to the Lilla Fridolf series and was one of the artists behind Aron Rapp from the 1970s, together with Magnus Knutsson. ''Someday You'll Find Her, Charlie Brown'' is the twenty-second prime-time animated television special based upon the popular comic strip ''Peanuts,'' by Charles M. Schulz. It originally aired on the CBS network on October 30, 1981. This is the only time Charlie Brown is voiced by Grant Wehr, which is his only acting credit. Wehr failed to reprise his role for the subsequent ''Peanuts'' cartoons as his voice was too coarse for the character. ''Peanuts'' is a print syndication, syndicated daily strip, daily and Sunday strip, Sunday American comic strip written and illustrated by Charles M. Schulz. The strip's original run extended from 1950 to 2000, continuing in reruns afterward. ''Peanuts'' is among the most popular and influential in the history of comic strips, with 17,897 strips published in all, making it "arguably the longest story ever told by one human being". Urusei Yatsura
is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi. It was serialized in Shogakukan's ''Weekly Shōnen Sunday'' from September 1978 to February 1987. Its 366 individual chapters were published in 34 ''tankōbon'' volumes. It tells the story of Ataru Moroboshi, and the alien Lum, who believes she is Ataru's wife after he accidentally proposes to her. The series makes heavy use of Japanese mythology, culture and puns. It was adapted into an anime television series produced by Kitty Films and broadcast on Fuji Television affiliates from October 1981, to March 1986, with 194 half-hour episodes. Twelve OVAs and six theatrical films followed, and the series was released on various home video formats. The manga series was republished in different formats in Japan.
