1981 Women's Hockey World Cup
The 1981 Women's Hockey World Cup was the fourth edition of the Women's Hockey World Cup, a field hockey tournament. It was held from the 27 March to 5 April 1981 at the CeNARD in Buenos Aires, Argentina. West Germany women's national field hockey team, West Germany won the tournament for a second time, defeating the Netherlands women's national field hockey team, Netherlands 3–1 in Penalty shoot-out (field hockey), penalties after the #Final, final finished as a 1–1 draw. The Soviet Union women's national field hockey team, Soviet Union finished in third place after defeating Australia women's national field hockey team, Australia 5–1. Ingrid Bruckert
Ingrid Bruckert (born 19 November 1952), also known as Ingrid Bruckert-Redmer, is a retired German field hockey player. Bruckert played for Eintracht Braunschweig. With her club, she won seven German championship titles. She also played 110 games in total for the German national team. With West Germany, Bruckert won the 1976 and 1981 Women's Hockey World Cups. She was also called up to the West German squad for the 1980 Summer Olympics. However, due to the 1980 Summer Olympics boycott, the West German team ultimately did not enter the tournament. Goalkeeper (field Hockey)
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick.
