Mestaruussarja
Mestaruussarja (Championship series) was the top division of Finland, Finnish association football, football from 1930 to 1989. It was replaced by Veikkausliiga in 1990. In 1930 league format was used for the first time to decide the Finnish champion. Before that from 1908 to 1929 the championship was decided with cup competition. The league was dominated by clubs from Helsinki, Turku and Vyborg. The first champion was HIFK, HIFK Fotboll from Helsinki. In 1935 four best clubs were from Helsinki and in 1934 and 1936 top three clubs also came from Helsinki. From 1908 to 1940 the championship went outside Helsinki on only six occasions. Kuopio was the first inland city to get into the league when Koparit, Pallotoverit were promoted in 1938. During World War II years the league was sometimes cut short, abandoned or decided with cup competition instead. In 1940s Finnish Workers' Sports Federation, TUL clubs also participated. Sepsi-78
Sepsi-78 is a Finnish association football club from Seinäjoki. The club was founded in 1978 after bankruptcy of its predecessor, Seinäjoen Palloseura (SePS). The first teams of Sepsi-78 and TP-Seinäjoki merged into Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho in 2007. Currently Sepsi-78 focuses in youth football and its first team plays in the Kutonen, seventh tier of the Finnish football league system. History Seinäjoen Palloseura was founded in 1930. SePS had activity in football and bandy, which was the club's main sport in the beginning. SePS played seven seasons in the bandy top flight before 1966. The club also played football for 15 seasons in the second tier between 1945 and 1977. In 1977 SePS went bankrupt, but Sepsi-78 was formed and the new club got its place in the Ykkönen. Honka Espoo
FC Honka is a Finnish football club based in Espoo. It was founded in 1957 as Tapion Honka, and changed its name to FC Honka in 1975. The club currently play in the Finnish premier division (''Veikkausliiga''), having been promoted for the first time in their history at the end of the 2005 season. Kuopion Elo (originally Männistön Elo) is a football club from Kuopio, Finland. They currently play in Nelonen, fifth tier of Finnish football. Elo is the oldest existing football club in Kuopio History Kuopion Elo was founded as Männistön Elo by local working class youth in 1919. In past club has also played other sports. From early on their home area have been Männistö and Itkonniemi districts north of Kuopio city center. At the beginning they played only against Kuopion Riento. They played their first match in 1919. FC Lahti
FC Lahti is a Finnish football club based in the city of Lahti. It currently plays in the Finnish Premier League (''Veikkausliiga'') after placing first in the Finnish First Division (''Ykkönen'') during season 2011. The homeground of FC Lahti is Lahden Stadion. FC Lahti is famous of being the local team of the most successful Finnish player, Jari Litmanen, who played for the club in two stints in 2004 and 2009–10. In his youth years and the start of his career, he played in Reipas Lahti. Ilves (football)
Tampereen Ilves (; Finnish for "Lynx") is a Finnish football club, based in Tampere. They currently play in the Veikkausliiga, the highest level of professional football in Finland. They were formed in 1975 as a merger between Ilves-Kissat Tampere and TaPa Tampere, and joined the Premier Division in 1979. Ilves won the Finnish League championship in 1983 and the Finnish Cup on three occasions in 1979, 1990, and 2019. In the late 1990s, Ilves suffered financial trouble and its professional team was reformed into Tampere United before the 1999 season. The initial plan was to join Ilves with TPV, but TPV decided to continue as its own team. As a result, Tampere United inherited Ilves' place in the second highest division, and Ilves dissolved their men’s team. Thus the club did not have a men's team from 1999 to 2007. Mikkelin Pallo-Kissat
Mikkelin Pallo-Kissat (or MiPK) is a Finnish football club, based in Mikkeli. Background MiPK was founded in 1946, after footballers from local sports club Vauhti, wanted their own club specialized in ball games. MiPK is a member of Finnish Workers' Sports Federation. In early 1980s club was driven into financial difficulties and their final season was in 1983, new club called Mikkelin Kissat was formed to continue clubs operations. MiPK was able to avoid bankruptcy and in 1997 they re-joined Finnish FA. Since 2016 Mikkelin Kissat has used Mikkelin Pallo-Kissat as their men's name as a homage to original MiPK. In 2020 Mikkelin Kissat continued as a Mikkelin Pallo-Kissat. MiPK shares a local rivalry with MP, in the past MiPK was considered as a working class club while MP was more middle class. MP Mikkeli
Mikkelin Palloilijat (or MP) is a Finnish professional football club, based in Mikkeli, that competes in the Ykkönen. The club was founded in 1929 and also included volleyball, bandy and ice hockey sections. History In 1998, MP merged with Mikkelin Kissat to form FC Mikkeli. Due to financial difficulties, this union in 2001 was dissolved and the two clubs returned to manage individually. It played in the Finnish First Division (''Ykkönen'') from 2004 to 2006 but was relegated to Kakkonen at the end of the season. The club gained promotion to Ykkönen by winning the Group A of Kakkonen 2009 but was immediately relegated back to Kakkonen in 2010. Rovaniemen Palloseura (RoPS) is a football club founded in 1950 and based in Rovaniemi, Finland. In 2019 RoPS participated in the Finnish Premier Division, (''Veikkausliiga'') marking their 32nd season in the top flight (previously called "Veikkausliiga") since 1981.
