Hana Mandlíková defeated Sylvia Hanika in the final, 6–2, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1981 French Open. Hana Mandlíková
Hana Mandlíková (born 19 February 1962) is a former professional tennis player from Czechoslovakia who later obtained Australian citizenship. During her career she won four Grand Slam singles titles - the 1980 Australian Open, 1981 French Open, 1985 US Open and 1987 Australian Open. She was also runner-up in four Grand Slam singles events - twice at Wimbledon and twice at the US Open. The graceful right-hander secured one Grand Slam women's doubles title, at the 1989 US Open with Martina Navratilova. Inducted into thInternational Tennis Hall of Famein 1994, Mandlíková was one of the brightest stars of her generation and is considered one of the greatest female players of the Open Era. Elisabeth Ekblom (born 10 February 1958) is a former professional tennis player from Sweden. Biography Ekblom was a semifinalist at the 1976 Australian Open as a 17-year-old. She started her run with a straight sets win over second seed Kerry Reid, then defeated unseeded players Kathleen Harter and Christine Matison. In the semifinal, she was beaten by Czechoslovakia's Renáta Tomanová. In 1978, she made her Fed Cup debut for Sweden in a first round tie against France. Claudia Kohde-Kilsch (''née'' Kohde; born 11 December 1963) is a former German tennis player and member of the Die Linke. During her tennis career, she won two women's doubles Grand Slam titles. She also won eight singles titles and a total of 25 doubles titles. Personal life Kohde-Kilsch was born Claudia Kohde in Saarbrücken, but added the hyphenated "-Kilsch" to her name which came from her adoptive father Jürgen Kilsch, an attorney. She has a younger sister, Katrin. She began playing tennis aged 5, and was soon a rising junior player. Kohde-Kilsch campaigned for Oskar Lafontaine of Die Linke at the 2012 Saarland state election. Barbara Jordan (born April 2, 1957) is an American former professional tennis player who won the 1979 Australian Open singles title. Jordan also won the mixed doubles title at the 1983 French Open with Eliot Teltscher. Jordan was a three-time All-American at Stanford University, where she obtained her degree in economics in three years.
