The 1980 LPGA Tour was the 31st season since the LPGA Tour officially began in 1950. The season ran from February 1 to November 9. The season consisted of 38 official money events. Donna Caponi and JoAnne Carner won the most tournaments, five each. Beth Daniel led the money list with earnings of $231,000. There were five first-time winners in 1980: Barbara Barrow, Dot Germain, Dale Lundquist, Tatsuko Ohsako, and Donna White. The tournament results and award winners are listed below. JoAnne Carner
JoAnne Gunderson Carner (born April 4, 1939) is an American former professional golfer. Her 43 victories on the LPGA Tour led to her induction in the World Golf Hall of Fame. She is the only woman to have won the U.S. Girls' Junior, U.S. Women's Amateur, and U.S. Women's Open titles, and was the first person ever to win three different USGA championship events. Tiger Woods is the only man to have won the equivalent three USGA titles. Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Carol Semple Thompson have also won three different USGA titles. Carner was inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame in 1969. In 1981, Carner was voted the Bob Jones Award, the highest honor given by the United States Golf Association in recognition of distinguished sportsmanship in golf. Susie Berning
Susie Maxwell Berning (born July 22, 1941) is a retired American professional golfer. She became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1964 and won four major championships and eleven LPGA Tour victories in all. She also competed under her maiden name Susie Maxwell from 1964 to 1968. She was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2022. Amateur career Maxwell was born in Pasadena, California. Her family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma when she was 13. After taking up golf at the age of 15, she immediately won three-straight Oklahoma State High School Championships. She also won the Oklahoma City Women's Amateur from 1959 to 1961. In 1963, she won the Oklahoma Women's Amateur. Jerilyn Britz
Jerilyn Britz (born January 1, 1943) was an American professional golfer on the LPGA Tour. She won the 1979 U.S. Women's Open. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Britz attended Minnesota State University, Mankato (then called Mankato State University) and the University of New Mexico. She is in the Minnesota State Maverick Athletic Hall of Fame. Britz spent five years working as a high school teacher and three years as a college instructor before making her LPGA Tour debut at age 31 in 1974. During her 26-year career on the tour, Britz won twice. Her first win came in 1979 at a major championship, the U.S. Women's Open; the second was at the Mary Kay Classic in Texas in 1980. Sandra Palmer (golfer)
Sandra Palmer (born March 10, 1943) is an American professional golfer. She became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1964 and won 19 LPGA Tour events, including two major championships, during her career. Amateur career Palmer was born in Fort Worth, Texas, but grew up (and first played golf) in Bangor, Maine. She attended North Texas State University where she was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. Palmer attended North Texas State University, where she was runner-up in the 1961 National Collegiate Championship. While at North Texas State, Palmer joined Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Sandra Jane Haynie (born June 4, 1943) is an American former professional golfer on the LPGA Tour starting in 1961. She won four major championships, 42 LPGA Tour career events, and is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Amateur career Haynie was born in Fort Worth, Texas. She won the 1957-58 Texas State Publinx and the 1958-59 Texas Amateur. She also captured the 1960 Trans-Mississippi title. Mary Mills (golfer)
Mary Mills (born January 19, 1940) is a retired American professional golfer. She became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1962 and won three major championships and nine LPGA Tour victories in all. Amateur career Mills was born in Laurel, Mississippi. She began playing golf at age 11 and her instructor was Johnny Revolta, an 18-time PGA Tour winner and PGA Championship victor. She won the Mississippi State Amateur eight consecutive years starting in 1954, and won the Gulf Coast Amateur twice.
