1980 TANFL Season
The 1980 Tasmanian Australian National Football League (TANFL) premiership season was an Australian rules football competition staged in Hobart, Tasmania over fifteen roster rounds and four finals series matches between 24 May and 20 September 1980. The season started almost two months later than usual and was shortened by several rounds to accommodate the inaugural Winfield Statewide Cup which was held that season. The League was known as the Winfield League under a commercial naming-rights sponsorship agreement with the Winfield tobacco company. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Throwing the ball is not allowed, and players must not get caught holding the ball. Noel Leary
Noel Leary (born 3 September 1949) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the early 1970s. Leary, originally from Ulverstone, failed to make much of an impact at Melbourne, despite winning the reserves' best and fairest award in 1973. He did however became a prominent player in the Tasmanian Football League, firstly at Sandy Bay and then at Clarence. He captain-coached Clarence to premierships in 1979 and 1981. Football Park
Football Park, known commercially as AAMI Stadium, was an Australian rules football stadium located in West Lakes, South Australia, West Lakes, a western suburb of Adelaide, the state capital of South Australia, Australia. It was built in 1973 by the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and opened in 1974. Until the end of the 2013 AFL season, it served as the home ground of South Australia's Australian Football League, AFL clubs, the Adelaide Crows, Adelaide Football Club and Port Adelaide Football Club. It also hosted all SANFL finals from 1974 to 2013. Demolition of the stadium's grandstands began in August 2018, and finished in March 2019. South Australian National Football League
The South Australian National Football League, or SANFL ( or ''S-A-N-F-L''), is an Australian rules football league based in the Australian state of South Australia. It is also the state's governing body for the sport. Originally formed as the South Australian Football Association on 30 April 1877, the SANFL is the oldest surviving football league of any code in Australia and is the 7th oldest club football league in the world. Tasmanian Football League
The Tasmanian State League (TSL), colloquially known as the "Tasmanian Football League (TFL)" (formerly known as the "Tasmanian Australian National Football League (TANFL)" and several other short-term names) is the highest ranked Australian rules football league in Tasmania, Australia. Queensland Australian Football League
The Queensland Australian Football League (QAFL) is an Australian rules football competition organised by the AFL Queensland, contested by clubs from South East Queensland. Previously known as the Queensland Football League (QFL), Queensland Australian National Football League (QANFL), Queensland Australian Football League (QAFL) and AFL Queensland State League (AFLQSL), the QAFL is the premier semi-professional competition in Queensland. Wayne Fox
Wayne "Baldy" Fox (born 4 January 1959) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for various clubs in the Tasmanian Australian National Football League (TANFL) and later, the TFL Statewide League. He also played with Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A forward, Fox was the all-time record Tasmanian Football League goal-kicker with 1049 goals and started his career at Glenorchy in 1975, before crossing to New Norfolk in 1981. He was most prolific when playing at New Norfolk, where he topped the TANFL/TFL Statewide league goal-kicking in four successive years from 1983 to 1986. The best of those tallies, 135 goals, came in 1983, and the previous season he was a member of New Norfolk's premiership team. Andrew Vanderfeen
Andrew Wilfred Vanderfeen (born 10 September 1955) is a former Australian Rules Football player who was inducted into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame in 2015. Vanderfeen played 127 games for the Ulverstone Football Club and 98 games for the Clarence Football Club. John Chick (footballer)
John Chick (25 August 1932 – 17 March 2013) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton in the VFL during the 1950s. Chick began and ended his career in Tasmania but in between spent nine VFL seasons at Carlton. A pacy wingman, he joined Carlton from New Town where he had played in their 1951 TANFL premiership side.
