1980 Supertaça De Portugal
The 1980 Supertaça de Portugal was the 2nd edition of the Supertaça de Portugal, the annual Portuguese football season-opening match contested by the winners of the previous season's top league and cup competitions (or cup runner-up in case the league- and cup-winning club is the same). The 1980 Supertaça de Portugal was contested over two legs, and opposed Benfica and Sporting CP of the Primeira Liga. Sporting CP qualified for the SuperCup by winning the 1979–80 Primeira Divisão, whilst Benfica qualified for the Supertaça by winning the 1979–80 Taça de Portugal. The first leg which took place at the Estádio José Alvalade, saw 2–2 draw. The second leg which took place at the Estádio da Luz, saw the ''Águias'' defeat the ''Leões'' 2–1 (4–3 on aggregate) to claim a first Supertaça. Supertaça Cândido De Oliveira
The Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira (; English: Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup, or simply Portuguese Super Cup) is an annual Portuguese football match played since 1979 between the winners of the Portuguese League (Primeira Liga) and Portuguese Cup (Taça de Portugal). When a team wins both competitions (thus achieving the double (''dobradinha'')), it plays again against the Cup runners-up. The Supertaça has been organised by the Portuguese Football Federation since 1981 and is usually played in August, right before the start of the league season. The trophy is named after former player, coach and sports journalist Cândido de Oliveira. António Bastos Lopes
António José Bastos Lopes (born 19 December 1953) is a Portuguese retired footballer who played as a central defender. Club career Born in Lisbon, Bastos Lopes played for 15 seasons with hometown side S.L. Benfica, making his first-team debut in 1972. After only seven Primeira Liga games in his first three years combined, he benefitted from the departure of legendary Humberto Coelho – who barred him at the stopper position – to Paris Saint-Germain F.C. to begin appearing more regularly. For nine of the following 12 years, Lopes started more often than not, even when Coelho returned from France two years later, and went on to win seven leagues, six cups and two supercups with his only club. Frederico Rosa
Frederico Nobre Rosa (6 April 1957 – 17 February 2019), known simply as Frederico, was a Portuguese professional footballer who played as a central defender. Club career Frederico was born in Castro Verde, Baixo Alentejo. During his club career he played for CUF, Barreirense, Benfica (having to compete with the likes of Humberto Coelho – his idol – he featured solely as a backup during four years), Boavista (his most steady period, with eight consecutive Primeira Liga seasons, nearly 300 official appearances and team captaincy), Vitória de Guimarães, Estrela da Amadora and Leixões. Humberto Coelho
Humberto Manuel de Jesus Coelho (born 20 April 1950) is a Portuguese retired footballer and manager. In a career mainly associated with Benfica, the central defender also competed professionally in France and the United States, during a 16-year career. He won more than 60 caps for Portugal, being the player with the most appearances for several years. Coelho worked as a manager since 1985, also being in charge of several national teams including his own. Manuel Bento
Manuel Galrinho Bento (25 June 1948 – 1 March 2007) was a Portuguese professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Bento was best known for his 20-year spell at Benfica, having retired well into his 40s after appearing in nearly 650 official games. He represented Portugal at Euro 1984 and the 1986 World Cup, helping the national team reach the semi-finals in the former tournament. Chosen by Portuguese sports newspaper '' Record'' as one of the best 100 Portuguese footballers, Bento won the ''Goalkeeper of the Year'' award a best-ever eight times. Fernando Mendes (footballer Born 1937)
Fernando Mamede Mendes (15 July 1937 – 31 March 2016) was a Portuguese football midfielder and manager. Playing career Mendes was born in Seia, Guarda District. During his professional career, which lasted 13 seasons, he played almost exclusively for Sporting CP, also starting and finishing his football development at the Lisbon side. He appeared in 233 matches during his spell, including friendlies. Mendes represented the Portugal national team for six years, but did not attend any major international tournament. On 25 April 1965, he broke his leg in the early minutes of the away fixture against Czechoslovakia for the 1966 FIFA World Cup qualification as the national team eventually won it 1–0 thanks to Eusébio, with ten players (no substitutions were allowed then). The team captain of an association football team, sometimes known as the skipper, is a team member chosen to be the on-pitch leader of the team; they are often one of the older or more experienced members of the squad, or a player that can heavily influence a game or has good leadership qualities. Manuel Fernandes (footballer Born 1951)
Manuel José Tavares Fernandes (born 5 June 1951) is a Portuguese retired footballer who played as a striker, and a coach. One of the country's most prolific goalscorers, his playing career was mainly associated with Sporting, which he later also coached. At 386 goals in all official competitions, he is the second-highest goalscorer in the club's history. Over 19 seasons, in which he also represented two other clubs, Fernandes amassed Primeira Liga totals of 485 matches and 241 goals.
