1980 National Camogie League
The 1980 National Camogie League is a competition in the women's team field sport of camogie was won by Kilkenny, who defeated Tipperary in the final, played at Roscrea. Arrangements Kilkenny defeated Limerick, Cork and Galway en route to the final. Tipperary defeated Clare, Down and Wexford by 3–9 to 2–7. Tipperary then defeated Dublin in the semi-final while Kilkenny had a bye to the final. Barbara Redmond was missing from the Dublin team for the League semi-final, the second yearthat a league semi-final involving Dublin went to extra time. The Final Both sides were without their first choice goalkeepers for the final, Mary O'Brien a student at Thomond College having gone to America and Teresa O'Neill on holiday in America. The Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (Kilkenny GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Cill Chainnigh) is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kilkenny. Saint Brigids GAA
St Brigid's GAA Club (Irish: Cumann Naomh Bríd) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Castleknock, Fingal, Ireland which serves Castleknock, Clonsilla, Blanchardstown and Corduff. Its main grounds are at Russell Park, and it also has grounds in Castleknock at Beech Park and College Fort. The club supports 70 teams, from nursery level (four- to seven-year-olds) to adults, in hurling, football, camogie, women's football, handball and badminton. We've Got a Fuzzbox and We're Gonna Use It!!, often shortened to Fuzzbox, are a British alternative rock group. Formed in Birmingham in 1985, the all-female then quartet originally consisted of Vix (Vickie Perks), Magz (Maggie Dunne), Jo Dunne and Tina O'Neill. The band's name was shortened to Fuzzbox for the U.S. release of their first album. They disbanded in 1990 after releasing two studio albums, and reunited in 2010 for a series of concerts. Erin's Own GAA (Kilkenny)
Erin's Own Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in 1885 and since then has been the main sporting organization in the Castlecomer area in County Kilkenny, Ireland. Erin's Own fielded teams in 11 different grades of hurling and in 7 grades of gaelic football in 2006, and is currently undertaking major development at its new ground, Canon Kearns Park. With a membership of about 20 adults and about 100 youths the club is in the enviable position of having two properties, the first, The Prince Grounds, in the town, and the second, Canon Kearns Park, on the outskirts of the town, towards Kilkenny. Angela Downey
Angela Downey-Browne (born 1957, Kilkenny) is a retired Irish sportsperson. She played camogie at various times with her local clubs, St Paul’s Camogie Club, St Paul's camogie club based in Kilkenny city and Lisdowney GAA, Lisdowney, and was a member of the Kilkenny GAA, Kilkenny senior inter-county team from 1970 until 1995. Downey is regarded as the greatest player in the history of the game. Downey's reputation as one of the all-time greats of camogie is self-evident. In a senior inter-county career that lasted for a quarter of a century she won twelve All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship, All-Ireland medals, thirteen Leinster medals and eight National League medals. With her two clubs St. Paul's and Lisdowney she collected a huge haul of twenty-two county titles and six All-Ireland club medals. Mary Fennelly
Mary Fennelly (Máire Ní Fhionnalaigh) was the 19th president of the Camogie Association. Family background She is first cousin of the Fennelly family from Ballyhale, of whose seven brothers four played together to win the 1989 Leinster Senior Club Hurling Championship and four (Kevin, Seán, Ger and Liam) played together in the All Ireland hurling final of 1987. Career She won three All Ireland medals with Kilkenny in 1974, 1976 (when she captained the team), and 1977 (when she won the Kilkenny camogie sports star award) and All Ireland club medals with St Paul's. Ballyhale Shamrocks is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Ballyhale in County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland. The club was founded in 1972 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Ballyhale Shamrocks are the most successful club in the history of the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship with eight titles. Hurling History Beginnings Gaelic Games had been played in the parish of Ballyhale long before the Shamrocks club was established. By the early 1970s there were two competing clubs in existence in the parish, Ballyhale and Knocktopher, however, they were both facing extinction. A third club, Knockmoylan, had ceased to exist at some time in 1959. Because of the situation facing both clubs they decided to amalgamate in 1972 under the new name of Ballyhale Shamrocks.
