1980 FA Charity Shield
The 1980 FA Charity Shield was the 58th FA Charity Shield, an annual football match played between the winners of the previous season's Football League and FA Cup competitions. The match took place on 9 August 1980 at Wembley Stadium and was played between 1979–80 Football League champions Liverpool and FA Cup winners West Ham United. It ended in a 1–0 victory for Liverpool, the only goal coming from Terry McDermott in the 17th minute from close range after the West Ham goalkeeper Phil Parkes spilled a shot from Alan Kennedy from the left of the penalty area. Ray Clemence
Raymond Neal Clemence, (5 August 1948 – 15 November 2020) was an England international football goalkeeper and part of the Liverpool team of the 1970s. He is one of only 31 players to have made over 1,000 career appearances, and holds the record for the most clean sheets in the history of football (460). Winning three European Cups, five League titles, two UEFA Cups, a UEFA Super Cup, an FA Cup and a League Cup with Liverpool, the last of his 665 appearances for the club was the victorious 1981 European Cup Final. David Fairclough
David Fairclough (born Liverpool, 5 January 1957) is an English retired footballer, most famous for playing for Liverpool as a striker during the 1970s and 1980s. Avi Cohen
Avraham "Avi" Cohen ( he, אבי כהן; 14 November 1956 – 29 December 2010) was an Israeli footballer who played as a defender, and a manager. He was best known for his spells playing for two British clubs: Liverpool in England and Rangers in Scotland. Samuel Lee (born 7 February 1959) is an English professional football coach and former player. Lee played most of his career for hometown club Liverpool during the 1970s and 1980s as a midfielder, and also represented England national football team, England fourteen times. He also had playing spells at Queens Park Rangers F.C., Queens Park Rangers, CA Osasuna, Osasuna, Southampton F.C., Southampton, and Bolton Wanderers F.C., Bolton Wanderers. Colin Irwin (footballer)
Colin Irwin (born 9 February 1957) is a professional footballer of the early 1980s. A defender, able to play at left-back or in the centre, Irwin came through the youth ranks at Liverpool, and his first call-up to the first-team squad came, remarkably, in the 1978 European Cup Final. Irwin did not get on the pitch, but Liverpool won the game, and Irwin collected a winners medal. He was not involved in the first-team squad for all the 1978–79 season, but he made his debut early the following season, against West Bromwich Albion, and went on to make 14 appearances throughout the season. 1980–81 saw a revamp of the Liverpool squad, with many young players given their chance, including Irwin. Graeme Souness
Graeme James Souness (; born 6 May 1953) is a Scottish former professional football player and manager, and current TV pundit. A midfielder, Souness was the captain of the successful Liverpool team of the early 1980s, player-manager of Rangers in the late 1980s and captain of the Scotland national team. He also played for Tottenham Hotspur, Middlesbrough and Sampdoria. Jimmy Case
James Robert Case (born 18 May 1954) is an English retired professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He gained national prominence with Liverpool in the 1970s and early 1980s. Early life Case was brought up in Allerton and was a distant neighbour of musician Paul McCartney on the council estate which had been built in the interwar years. He was a keen member of the local scouts. As a teenager he was quite small for his age. Alan David Hansen (born 13 June 1955) is a Scottish former footballer and BBC television football pundit. Ray Kennedy
Raymond Kennedy (28 July 1951 – 30 November 2021) was an English footballer who won every domestic honour in the game with Arsenal and Liverpool in the 1970s and early 1980s. Kennedy played as a forward for Arsenal, and then played as a left-sided midfielder for Liverpool. He scored 148 goals in 581 league and cup appearances in a 15-year career in the English Football League and also won 17 caps for England between 1976 and 1980, scoring three international goals. Kennedy turned professional for Arsenal in November 1968.
