The 1979 World Netball Championships was the fifth edition of the INF Netball World Cup, a quadrennial premier event in international netball. It was held in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, featuring 19 teams. The 1975 World Netball Championships was the fourth edition of the INF Netball World Cup, a quadrennial premier event in international netball. It took place from 22 August to 4 September and was held in Auckland, New Zealand. It featured 11 teams with the debut of (Fiji and Papua New Guinea). After each team had played ten games, Australia successfully defended its 1969 title with nine wins and a draw (against New Zealand). Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth nations. A common misunderstanding of the sport's origins has resulted in the mistaken belief that netball was created to prevent women from playing basketball. Netball World Cup
The Netball World Cup is a quadrennial international netball world championship organised by the World Netball, inaugurated in 1963. Trinidad And Tobago National Netball Team
The Trinidad and Tobago national netball team, known as the Calypso Girls, represent Trinidad and Tobago in international netball. The Caribbean team competed at the first World Netball Championships in 1963, and are the only nation outside of Australia and New Zealand to have won a World Championship (in 1979). Throughout the mid-1970s and 1980s the Calypso Girls were a dominant force in international netball, but since the early 1990s the team have become less competitive. New Zealand National Netball Team
The New Zealand national netball team, commonly known as the Silver Ferns, represent New Zealand in international netball. The team take their nickname from the Silver Tree Fern (''Cyathea dealbata''), which is an emblem for many New Zealand sports teams. The Silver Ferns were formed in 1938 as a representative New Zealand team to tour Australia. To date, they have been one of the most dominant national netball teams in the world, along with Australia, and have a winning record against most other netball nations.
