1979 WANFL Season
The 1979 WANFL season was the 95th season of the West Australian National Football League in its various incarnations, and the last of forty-nine (including three under-age wartime seasons) under that moniker. The season set many records for high scoring due to the still-ongoing drying of Perth's climate and the new “interchange’ rule. The all-time record aggregate score of 60.18 (378) was set in the third last round between and and has never been approached since. However, the overall average score of 112.52 points per team per game was not nearly so high as in the following few years under the ‘WAFL’ moniker. Kevin Taylor (Australian Footballer)
Kevin James Taylor (born 15 September 1958) is a former Indigenous Australian rules footballer who played for South Melbourne and Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL), East Fremantle and Swan Districts in the West Australian Football League (WAFL), and West Torrens in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). A rover who could also play in the forward pocket, Taylor made his senior debut for East Fremantle in the WAFL in 1978 and won a Simpson Medal for his performance in the 1979 Grand Final, when he kicked seven goals, including his 100th for the season. Taylor’s goal kicking in the home-and-away season that year earned him the Bernie Naylor Medal and he finished the season with 102 goals. In 1981 Taylor moved to Victoria to play for South Melbourne. The West Australian
''The West Australian'' is the only locally edited daily newspaper published in Perth, Western Australia. It is owned by Seven West Media (SWM), as is the state's other major newspaper, ''The Sunday Times''. It is the second-oldest continuously produced newspaper in Australia, having been published since 1833. It tends to have conservative leanings, and has mostly supported the Liberal–National Party Coalition. It has Australia's largest share of market penetration (84% of WA) of any newspaper in the country. Simon Beasley
Simon Francis Beasley (born 26 July 1956) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Swan Districts Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and for the Footscray Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A pale and slightly-built full forward, Beasley is the Western Bulldogs' leading career goalkicker and also holds the record for kicking the most goals in the VFL between the years 1980 to 1989. He is also one of two footballers (the other being George Moloney) to have kicked 100 or more goals in a season in both the WAFL and VFL/AFL competitions. Beasley worked as a stockbroker for various firms during and after his playing days. In 2002, he became a licensed bookmaker and started his own company, which ceased after he was banned in 2009 for improper conduct.
