1979 King Cup
The 1979 King Cup was the 21st season of the knockout competition since its establishment in 1956. Al-Ahli were the defending champions and successfully defended the title, winning their third one in a row. Round of 32 The matches of the Round of 32 were held on 9, 10 and 11 May 1979. Round of 16 The Round of 16 matches were held on 16, 17 and 18 May 1979. Quarter-finals The Quarter-final matches were held on 23, 24 and 25 May 1979. Semi-finals The four winners of the quarter-finals progressed to the semi-finals. The semi-finals were played on 31 May and 1 June 1979. All times are local, AST (UTC+3). Final The final was played between Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad in the Youth Welfare Stadium in Riyadh. This was the first final to be played by two teams from the same city. Al-Ahli Saudi FC
Al-Ahli Saudi Football Club ( ar, النادي الأهلي السعودي) is a Saudi Arabian professional football club based in Jeddah, that competes in the second division of Saudi Arabian football, following their relegation from the Saudi Professional League in the 2021–22 season. The club was founded in 1937. Domestically, Al-Ahli has won three Saudi Professional Leagues, holds record of 13 King's Cups, six Crown Prince Cups, one General League Shield, and one Super Cup. In international club football, they have won a record shared of 3 GCC Champions League and 1 Arab Club Championship. The first Saudi club combined the league and the King's Cup in the same season in 1968, and is the only club to do it twice - in 1978 and 2016. Al-Shabab FC (Riyadh)
Al-Shabab Football Club ( ar, نادي الشباب), or The Youth Football Club, in English, is a Saudi Arabian professional football club based in Riyadh. It was founded in 1947, and was at first named ''Shabab Al Riyadh''. (), meaning Riyadhi Youth, but in 1967 was renamed ''Al Shabab''. History Al Shabab was the First football club in Riyadh. The club began before 1947, with many conflicts before with its numerous members, but it was settled in 1947 and Abdulrahman Bin Saeed was the president. Five years later, Al Shabab won its first tournament beating Sakit Al Hadeed (Railway Club) in Riyadh. Three years later, in 1955 Al Shabab beat the Military College to win the King Saud Cup. Ohod Club
Ohod Club () is a Saudi Arabian professional football club based in Medina, which competes in the First Division League, the second tier of Saudi football. Ohod was named after Mount Uhud, hence the nickname "Al-Jabal". Ohod have won the Saudi First Division three times and have finished runners-up five times. They play their home games at the Prince Mohammed bin Abdul Aziz Stadium. Al Raed Saudi Football Club ( ''Nādī ar-Rāʾid'', "Pioneer Club") is a Saudi football club based in Buraidah, and the first of its kind in the Qassim region of Saudi Arabia.
