1979 Copa Libertadores Finals
The 1979 Copa Libertadores Finals was the final two-legged tie to determine the 1979 Copa Libertadores champion. It was contested by club Boca Juniors and club Olimpia. The first leg of the tie was played on July 22 at Olimpia' home field, with the second leg played on July 27 at Boca Juniors'. It was Olimpia 2nd Copa Libertadores finals and 4th finals for Boca Juniors. Olimpia won the series after winning the first leg tie 2-0 at Asunción's Estadio Defensores del Chaco, and tying the second leg tie 0-0 at Buenos Aires's Estadio Alberto J. 1979 Copa Libertadores
The 1979 Copa Libertadores represented the 20th edition of the tournament, which saw Olimpia of Paraguay win the title for the first time, the first time a team from a country outside Uruguay, Argentina or Brazil won the tournament. Osvaldo Aquino
Osvaldo Aquino (born 28 January 1952 in San Lorenzo, Paraguay) is a former football midfielder/winger and coach. Playing career Aquino started his career in the youth divisions of Atlético Triunfo and went on to play for several other teams from the San Lorenzo area before signing for Guaraní of the Paraguayan 1st division in 1973. In 1974, he was signed by Olimpia Asunción, where he became one of the most emblematic players of the club by winning several national and international championships in his 10-year career at the club. Aquino's highlights at Olimpia include scoring the first goal in the Copa Libertadores 1979 final against Boca Juniors, winning the Intercontinental Cup in 1979 and winning six consecutive Paraguayan 1st division titles from 1978 to 1983. Juan Carlos Lorenzo
Juan Carlos "Toto" Lorenzo (; 27 October 1922 – 14 November 2001) was an Argentine football player and coach. He became an icon for Boca Juniors fans after he coached the club to its first two Copa Libertadores titles. Biography In his teens, Lorenzo played for Chacarita Juniors, and made his professional debut in 1940. He was transferred to Boca Juniors in 1945, and after two years he joined Italian side Sampdoria team, where he remained until 1952. His next clubs would be now-defunct French F.C. Nancy, and Atlético Madrid, Rayo Vallecano, and RCD Mallorca, where in 1958 he was coach and player. Then, he quit play but remained as coach. Juan Ramón Rocha (born 8 March 1954) is an Argentine professional football manager and former player, who is the current manager of Greek Super League 2 club Thesprotos. Playing career Born in Santo Tomé, Corrientes, Rocha began his professional career at Newell's Old Boys in 1972, he was part of their Metropolitano winning team in 1974. Ernesto Mastrángelo
Ernesto Enrique Mastrángelo (born 5 July 1948 in Rufino) is an Argentine former football striker who played for both River Plate and Boca Juniors in Argentina. He also played international football for the Argentina national team Mastrángelo (nicknamed Héber) started his career in 1968 with Atlanta. In 1972, he joined River Plate but he never won any titles during his time with the club. He joined Unión de Santa Fe in 1975, but in early 1976 he was signed by River Plate's eternal rivals Boca Juniors. Rubén José Suñé (7 March 1947, Buenos Aires – 20 June 2019) was an Argentine football midfielder who won eight titles with Boca Juniors and also played for the Argentina national team, With the Argentina national team, where he his international debut in 1969 and played a total of six games for the squad. Jorge José Benítez (born 3 June 1950 in Gobernador Castro, Buenos Aires Province) is an Argentine former football player and coach. Nicknamed ''El Chino'' ("The Chinese"), Benítez started his career in Racing Club in 1969; in 1973 he was transferred to Boca Juniors, where he stayed until retirement in 1983. Vicente Alberto Pernía (born 25 April 1949 in Tandil, Buenos Aires Province), known as ''El Tano'' (the Italian, in lunfardo), is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a defender. He then went on to a second career as a car racing driver. Luis Alberto Cubilla Almeida (28 March 1940 – 3 March 2013) was a Uruguayan football player and coach. He had a successful playing career winning 16 major titles. He then went on to become one of the most successful managers in South American football with 17 major titles.
