Bill Janklow
William John Janklow (September 13, 1939January 12, 2012) was an American lawyer and politician and member of the Republican Party who holds the record for the longest tenure as Governor of South Dakota: sixteen years in office. Janklow had the third-longest gubernatorial tenure in post-Constitutional U.S. history at 5,851 days. Janklow served as the 25th Attorney General of South Dakota from 1975 to 1979 before serving as the state's 27th Governor from 1979 to 1987 and then the 30th Governor from 1995 to 2003. Janklow was then elected to the United States House of Representatives, where he served for a little more than a year. Roger D. McKellips (January 26, 1923 – August 18, 2017) was an American politician and banker. He was a member of the South Dakota Senate from 1977 to 1978 and then from 1981 to 1994; he was the minority leader of the senate from 1983 to 1992 and the majority leader from 1993 to 1994. Clint Ronald Roberts (January 30, 1935 – February 12, 2017) was an American rancher, Marlboro man, and one term U.S. representative from South Dakota, serving from 1981 to 1983. Early life and education Roberts was born in Presho, South Dakota, and attended Black Hills State College from 1952 to 1953. Roberts was a rancher. Political career Roberts was a member of the South Dakota Senate from 1972 to 1978 and served as Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Agriculture from 1979 to 1980. In 1980 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives as a Republican. He succeeded James Abdnor, who was elected to the U.S. Senate that year. After South Dakota lost its 2nd District due to redistricting in 1982, Roberts ran against Tom Daschle, then the representative from the 1st District.
